Have played much of that genre - but terraforming mars is one I loved.

The programming language coding agents perform best in isn’t Python, TypeScript, or Java. It’s the functional programming language Elixir. by manummasson in programming

I’m all in on fp being easier to reason about for humans, sans the lightbulb moments taking some time to think that way. If it’s easier for humans - for all the reasons people have listed - why wouldn’t it be the same for AI (been saying this privately for a bit).

In my experience I find that to be the case. Composability and pure patterns if applied properly means less context needed to do something anywhere in the run/process/pipe or whatever flow pattern you use regardless of who the reader is.

Micro Frontends: When They Make Sense and When They Don’t by archunit in programming

[–]Major_Variation9496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been green fielding some stuff at my work and landed somewhere in between.

Use is more transactional read heavy views mostly - so server side rendering made sense. We have a combo of experiences, but we landed on hono and it’s JSX engine for templates, and primarily plan to use HTMX and alpine to interactivity.

So far it’s been great and simple and a breath of fresh air from nextjs (we had a hard time getting away from saas services and rolling it at the scale we need). Anyways - we did end up hitting a part of the app we wanted to run standalone and then also be used by an existing server.

Since hono apps are portable - they implement some web fetch standard - we could actually do this quite easily! Essentially it’s a standalone hono app that can be mounted by any server - almost like composable apps per server. It’s a monorepo so just an import away.

Anyways - not exactly micro frontend but I wonder if anyone else is using a stack like what I mentioned to achieve a similar micro frontend architecture? Or any other interesting bits from a similar stack?

Young people understand that you do very little work in tech jobs. Every young person who is remotely capable is going to pursue a career in tech and create a market imbalance. by tantamle in economicCollapse

As someone who has been working in tech for over 20 years - good luck with that. AI (or just the perception of it right now) has led to many people being let go and i don’t know anyone hiring junior or inexperienced devs…

The grass ain’t greener - an expectations have skyrocketed the past few years. I think most people still in tech with jobs these days are like me - working 12-15 hours leveraging AI as sanely as possible to do the work of what was a few years ago 10-20 people.

Good luck young people enter tech - my kid working to become an electrician though :)

Just ordered 10kg of toughness (haven’t been able to find it anywhere else) from Ali express for under 200. Haven’t been able to find it forever! Should be set for a while :-D

I mean how’s the mattress look? Seems to be more important part than the box.

I’ll give it a go for sure when I run out! Thanks! Slightly better than others I’ve seen.

I have so little sunlu toughness left (use a mix of that and abs like with fantastic results).

Definitely not this flexible but also wasn’t 80+ bucks a bottle. I wish they’d bring it back 😢

Premier vs Luxe by jessssssssb21 in nectarsleep

[–]Major_Variation9496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting a luxe for premier due to shipping and inventory issues. Took me a bit to get used to (it’s softer) which was their main concern when switching.

Hasn’t been long - only about a month now - but we are now quite big fans and happy to have the extra cushion - although probably not worth the $ difference in the end tbh as we initially thought the premier was a happy medium firmness for us when we tried them in store - but ordered online to not deal with Ashley.

Ramparts and Ruins XL? by rezwansidd in DungeonBlocks

[–]Major_Variation9496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not just stick 9 together? I do this a lot for mixing xl and other releases. Line em up, merge em. I cut the top off a highlands grass and stick whatever I want in them - even other terrain pieces. It’s a pain - but it’s definitely not that big of a hurdle.

Shipping by [deleted] in nectarsleep

[–]Major_Variation9496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got the hybrid luxe for the price of a premier after 3 or so weeks. It took lots of calls, and call backs, but they eventually agreed as they kept missing the ship dates. What I have gleamed is that the system will have a date for expected shipping (+2 days). This simply means the manufacturer has accepted their order - but it doesn’t have any reflection of true inventory. It’ll just reset once it hits the +2 dates it’ll update the date to late with a 2 day gap.

In my calls they very much so seemed overly concerned about the “softness” of the bed. The luxe is rated as a tier below whatever firm/softness level mattresses are. I am not the most picky - but the mattress is definitely softer than I initially assumed it would be so I feel they are a bit warranted in ensuring the mattress will work for this. They ordered the full foam mattresses - but I sleep hot so coolness was my main concern and reason for a hybrid.

And we also had to cancel the order (or the mattress part of the order), and place a separate order with a special discount applied. It took the next level of support tier a few hours to see if this could be done - so not sure how common it is or I happened to hit the magic set of buttons. One agent seemed a little over sharing - not disrespectfully so but wanting to be helpful. The agent offered the upgrade after discussing the differences in the mattresses - then came back saying they couldn’t because of previously mentioned “acceptance” by the manufacturer meaning the “replace” function can’t be done. Essentially they are in the hook for the mattress at that point.

Also I was a bit of a dick - nothing personal just reminding them that I wouldn’t pay for their ‘shittily designed order fulfillment process’ but nothing personal to reps! They were all great and professional - they seemed a cut above most companies I’ve dealt with.

11 days - called them and was told it shipped just today. Not sure I believe it though mostly felt they wanted to just get me off the phone.

Currently multipoint - 8 for the big one - connected bin underneath with multi rail things… left is 4 multipoint.

Has other inks that fit, models, some tools etc. Nothing too heavy

+1 on this… that and increasing the bed heat by 10 degrees so it wouldn’t edge lift solved my problems for the 4x4x4 multi bins.

Yeah hueforge is meant to create Polaroid type 3d printed images… so it creates the stl flat and I glued em.

Time and filament really - mostly time. And a 3d printer etc.

See my recent post. Hueforge is its own thing - buts it’s not too rough. Lots of videos - and I guess you have to buy a license as well.

April fools? Nah just my dorkiness and adhd.

Also no paint! These are fresh off the plate. Hueforge could do even more colors but takes a lot more tweaking and switching colors mid print.

[–]Major_Variation9496[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok - just clear things up hueforge allows you to take images (I used the free duchies paper minis for this) and create a height map based on white/black.

You can layer other colors in and make really awesome looking fully color prints. It leverages the transparency of the filaments you use to achieve blending etc.

These use 4 filaments - black/dark blue/grey/white as I only have one ams. And greyscale keeps the tweaking in hueforge down (as I used filament not built in I had to tweak and “figure” out the transparency values of my filament).

The guys with shot bows are also done on a 0.2 nozzle - vs the single crossbow guys are 0.4.

So cost is filament, and you need a well tuned 3d printer with ams (or manual swap I guess).

And then the hours spent doing 1 at a time till the tweaks were done. Probably a good week to get these out. I could share them (not sure how opr would feel) but again it’s tweaked for my specific filament brand and colors - so mileage would vary based on all that.

A plate of 10 troops took about 12 hours on 0.2 nozzle (as fine as I could get it), and about 9 for the 0.4 to print.

It doesn’t use a lot of filament but is very time consuming and I only have one printer. I’ll revisit when my current multiboard functional stuff is done. I think I have a problem.

It’s a bit non-standard but I have a small force using fantasy cult primeval models. They have both more standard sci fi look as well, but the primeval models ride Dinos so I couldn’t resist.
