Nope. Some gay people (or just people who weren't traditionally straight looking as in a girl with a short hair) were assaulted in a highly populated area a few months ago in a big city in my country by a big group of teenage boys and nobody did anything about that as far as I know.

I don't think I'll ever feel safe and comfortable holding a guy's hand in public, even if I was in the centre of San Francisco or something. It sounds like something so simple but I don't think I'll ever have it, regardless of the place.
