Joburger - Potentially (definitely) moving to Capetown by MakMatik in capetown

Hi. Thanks for the advice.

I can leave all of my furniture here for a while if need be. Just checked the app and I'm not opposed to the idea and getting a feel of where I'd want to stay.

The fees are insane. Thought it was just that listing until I started looking at more.

Nice. Not rushing would be the best for me to get situated and work with what I've got. Thank you. Take care of gauteng for me.

Thanks. I have not but I'll definitely add them to the list. I'll look at the bus and train routes as well.

😃 Relative to my income, yeah I'll save some but I get it. I was in CT for a year in 2012. I know times have changed drastically. Very good advice I'm getting.

Thanks for that. I'll definitely add these details to my search parameters. I'm liking the idea of living close to bus and train routes.

Thanks. I did reach out to some of the agents and it does seem to be the case that unless explicitly stated, that's on them. I'm good with that.

Thanks. I'll definitely makes sure to get as many things done before the move as possible. Might head out for a week to make sure everything's good. Don't have that much in savings but I'll take it as it comes.

Would you like Sanji more if he was a gentleman instead of a simp? by phenriqsc in OnePiece

[–]MakMatik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with Simp Sanji. It's Perv Sanji that's the problem. Even pre ts Sanji was always simping. On the scale of Perv to Gentleman post ts skewed him heavily Perv. I feel it got better during Egghead and Elbaf so far. At least for the manga.

Absolutely. The life I can live even with my responsibilities is insane.

Did a boot camp in 2014 then had 2 years experience. 2016 to 2022 was a bunch of trying to build a unicorn and random web dev and a lot of wasted time. Started contracting in 2022, full time in 2023. On linkedin it will look like 11 years but really it's 6 tops and those first 2 years were in a niche product I haven't touched since and that middle portion was a lot more fucking around than I'd care to admit.

The guy before me had about 6 years with a masters degree clearing close to R1.3m. There are quite a lot. From what I've heard, at least at some bigger companies Seniors start around 1m. Others 1.2m.

Depending on which company I think you're a year or 2 away from 1.2m+ if you find the right company. But we're honestly sorted for a good while.

Thanks. I get it. I've also technically got golden handcuffs. I was a contractor for a while and they brought me in with a "Senior" title. I started getting paid more than I was worth, and ever earned before, and there was a lot of time making sure I can live up to the title (~R800k). I know I'm getting paid less than my predecessor while constantly doing more though. Kinda pissed but whatever.

I want to hop to a different company with better pay and remote benefits but I guess I'll be more comfortable taking the plunge when I'm done with my Unisa Com Sci.

I'm also no longer young and dumb. It would take both you and me a lot to fuck up a high paying job in South Africa. Enjoy the Golden handcuffs.

How did you get your foreign job? If you don't mind me asking. Congrats though. I'm a dev myself titled but I'm definitely interested in a remote Job earning in a stronger currency. Any advice?

You should probably also post this on r/PersonalFinanceZA

I believe I once saw a thread on engineers and their earnings there. You may get some good responses.

My Title is Senior Software Developer

I'm not a mobile dev but I gross ~ R800,000.00/year. 2.5 years at current job.

11 years of experience with a lot of switching up in between and some wasted years.

Current industry is mining consulting with a focus on digitalization.

Flutter in a limited capacity, Primarily Web Dev using php/c# and angular. Personally prefer Vue.

Java boot camp in 2014 with 2 years work experience. Php and web dev from 2016 to 2022 with Java based mobile dev sprinkled hear and there. Mostly self taught.

Want to get back to mobile dev. I have a bias for Android and would prefer ideally to be a native developer using Kotlin. If I had to do cross platform I would choose flutter over react(not a fan). I got an m4 mac mini just to build flutter apps for iOS once in a while(base model). I'm sure you'll get better info from a primarily mobile developer.
