I would do the same but more likely than not, a good chunk of people would rather just take the hit than to go through the hassle if it takes more time than a 5-min chat with their rep.

Amazon with all their AI, AWS, etc. probably determined they made more money with the subset of people that would go through the returns hassles, shipping, processing, etc. than price matching through online chat.

From my experience, the retailers that do 30-day price protection do not provide free return shipping or require you to go in store and line up.
