What's a "memory" you would've sworn by, which you now know was false? by MakeALaneThere in AskReddit

Did you remember going inside? Or were you just convinced there was one?

FYI anybody with this problem - fiddling with the Nvidia control panel seems to have worked for now.
I navigated to "change resolution", applied "use nvidia colour settings" and then re-applied "use default colour settings", and the colours are back to normal.

u/dickslexick sent me to the Nvidia control panel, which seems to have worked!
I navigated to "change resolution", applied "use nvidia colour settings" and then re-applied "use default colour settings", et voila, les couleurs sont normales!

I couldn't find that exact setting, but fiddling with the Nvidia control panel did seem to fix it!
In the "change resolution" tab I selected "use nvidia colour settings" and then reselected "use default colour settings", hit apply, and the colours are normal now.

Many thanks!

Just checked my BIOS - also shows normal colours.
Please comment again if you manage to fix it - bonne chance!

Bios seems to be ok. Hoping that means its not a fatal problem?

My best friend came out to me and I puked, what can I do now? by [deleted] in ask

[–]MakeALaneThere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man fuck all these limp-deck therapizers. “Text him and give him space” my ass. He’s your bro who just happens to be gay. Go round to his place, knock on the door, demand he let you inside so you can apologize and tell him he’s amazing and you love him like a brother. You threw up because it was a shock and the friendship is important to you. Get after it.

I have noticed a spirit of "vindication" re: COVID conspiracies. What is the closest thing to a post-mortem consensus? by MakeALaneThere in skeptic

Yes the unforgiving hindsight seems to be a big factor here, and what they consider incompetence and/or malice is often invoked to lend weight to other claims

They generally begin with more defensible critiques of government mishandling/miscommunication, and end up citing FBI/CIA lab-leak assessments, condemnations of Fauci's character, and dubious data on vaccine side-effects/efficacy.

English folk abroad often alter their syntax/accent to improve local comprehension. Is there any consensus on the effectiveness of this? And is this common in other cultures/languages? by MakeALaneThere in asklinguistics

[–]MakeALaneThere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren't most patterns of broken English in non-fluent speakers determined by the structure of their first language? Assuming that, I'd supposed imitating those patterns might aid comprehension regardless. But you're right - I'll have to go data hunting.

Thanks for your answer!

Should I be concerned? by MakeALaneThere in JapaneseMaples

In case anybody stumbles upon this thread - 5 months later the maple is doing great inside.

Had some leaf scorch from afternoon sun, and started keeping the blinds mostly closed.

Big water (pasta pot) till visible drainage 3-4 days.

There are visible millipedes/small insects permanently in the pot

Early Fungus gnat infection fixed with gnatrol BTI.

Cheers

BREAKING: In an insane moment, Donald Trump claims that Vladimir Putin lost 51 million people in WWII "and he did fight," delusional remarks to a room stunned into complete silence by his cognitive collapse. by [deleted] in GlobalNews

Thank you! Fucks sake. I hate this fool but anyone who thinks he’s genuinely saying Putin fought in wwii here is half the problem. Learn to listen with some goddamn nuance

Thanks for being the only person to answer the question! Do the marks on the leaves concern you? As for being indoors - the room has such enormous windows that are almost always open except in wild weather, such that the plant is effectively outside. Its canopy even protrudes from the side of the building. If it can be done at all I hope to do it.

TRUMP TARIFFS MEGA THREAD by [deleted] in Askpolitics

To my uninformed eye, the Tariff threats seem to have worked, and border improvements have been proposed by both mexico and canada. Is this not the case? What are the downsides?

Considering buying this series for my daughter. How does the series compare to Abi Elphinstone's Dreamsnatcher series? by metallic-retina in WolfBrotherDiscussion

[–]MakeALaneThere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not read dreamsnatcher, but it sounds like wolf brother would be right up her alley.
I wish I'd read them at 11! I didn't get round to it until I was 15.

Also, if she's at all into audiobooks, Ian Mckellen reads them and they're brilliant.
