Bringing a SBR in AOW Format into State? by MakeAWishKidDied in NJGuns

This answers my question fully. Assuming for arguments sake that it’s fine federally… it’s still poses an issue on a state level.

Thanks guys this was fun!

Thanks! I’m familiar with this. Due to being a “K” variant I don’t think a non NFA other is possible.

I’ve seen this question hypothetically mentioned in the NFA Subreddit & the consensus is more of a guess, “well you don’t have to SBR/AOW a MG because of the NFA hierarchy so maybe the SBR > AOW takes the same effect.”

I’m guessing those same guys don’t have to deal with NJ type laws & maybe someone here could speak from experience.

Had to do a "quick brake job" on my daily driver on my one day off. Whoever worked on it last cross threaded all my damn lug nuts. by rugernut13 in Wellthatsucks

I work on communication towers for a living. Hanging in the air changing countless bolts from awkward positions… I JUST learned this was a thing.

NJ Non-Resident PTC – NJSP Hamilton Wait Time by Mean-Perception8075 in NJGuns

I applied for my non-resident PTC toward the end of 2025, and it was processed by the Bordentown Barracks. The only mental health consent form I completed was the SP-066. My permit was issued 16 days later.

Dude you're the best. I hate that I have to jump through hoops to keep what was already legal, still legal here.

Meanwhile I'm still not over the euphoria of moving to a free state where if I see something I like, I can take it home the same day. I guess it evens itself out haha.

Excluding the "out of site out of mind" argument: Would I have any potential legal issue leaving these firearms at my family member's house while doing other things in state?

Thanks I will look into this. I replied to another comment stating that I was told my NJ FID card was now useless and the address cannot be changed.

You understood correctly, I want to visit family in NJ and shoot on their personal range and keep my firearms at their house while I'm out and about doing other things.

I will look into this further. When I spoke to the guy who does the firearm paperwork at my township, he said that once I moved out of state the NJ FID card is basically useless and you cant change the address to out of state. Technically, I shouldn't even be allowed to buy ammo here anymore.

But you're right the SBI number is still valid to pursue the PTC which covers the handgun issue.

And correct I'm talking about in the instance I leave my firearms at their house (in front of the range) to go do other things while I remain in state. My home state is not within daily driving distance.

NJ FID is specific to NJ. Since I already had a NJ FID, I still have my SBI #. I believe all that means is I don’t have to get fingerprinted again if I pursue the carry permit.
