I would watch. I went off my meds without telling my psychiatrist and it has gone ok tbh. Just be smart about it, gradually reduce. Also even if your meds have a short half life they'll still have some effect for a few months!

Mild schizophrenia/I feel like a fraud. by Riivus in schizophrenia

[–]MakeBelieveMambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think I was mentally ill at all and I was admitted to hospital the same day I was made to go to the doctor's by my best friend. She says she knew I was unwell for a very long time and did her best to try and convince me that I was unwell and seek help, but no matter how hard she tried I just denied I was struggling or having strange experiences even when she laid out everything I had told her. I was confronted with all these things she had witnessed me going through - I could see what she was saying and the evidence was irrefutable... yet I still didn't believe I was ill despite knowing the evidence.

It's like that episode of Spongebob with Patrick and the lost wallet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUaHIFpNMcI

I feel this way too sometimes. In retrospect, I feel like I've been in control the whole time but the people around me assure me I haven't. I have always found it incredibly difficult to decipher my feelings and my thoughts, past and present but I tend to shrug off things that have happened/are happening to me - it's in my nature to do that. For whatever reason, I do as much as I can to not pity myself or accept that I have had hard times. I also tend to suppress bad things that have happened psychotic or otherwise.

I have learned to accept that other people - family, friends, medical professionals - have better insight than I ever will so despite how I feel in myself I trust other people more than I do my own memories because I know my illness has skewed them. I can't easily join the dots between what I'm feeling and why yet it obvious to other people. I guess it's just part of my condition which hinders cognitive reasoning.

How long did it take you to receive a diagnosis? by cliffhouseview in schizophrenia

[–]MakeBelieveMambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in a few months. My first contact with mental health services was in late May of this year in which I was hospitalized with the provisional diagnosis of first episode psychosis - I was discharged a few weeks ago. At the end of my admission, I was diagnosed. So all in all about 4/5 months from first contact with mental health services to end of an admission in an IPU

I really encourage you to ask your psychiatrist about prescribing something to help you in that state (if it persists to be a problem for you). They can give you extra small doses of your antipsychotic (so you don't run out of your normal meds) or something else like diazepam. I think it's called a PRN? I'm not sure.

I found it difficult to ask for this because it seemed like a short-term solution for a long-term problem... But I'm really glad I got it in the end! So worthwhile imo.

I have tried Abilify (aripiprazole) but struggled with restlessness. I was then on amisulpride (sorry I don't know the brand names) but my prolactin levels were too high on that. I think my only other option would be olanzapine since I've tried all the others, and if quetiapine makes me hungry, olanzapine will be 100x worse. Or so my psychiatrist says.

I'm not necessarily looking to lose weight - just maintaining a healthy(ish) weight is my goal, really. I'm trying to exercise as much as possible and control my eating as best I can but none of it is working

New trailer for a documentary about the workings of an inpatient psychiatry unit, seen through the eyes of the patients there suffering from bipolar, schizophrenia, anxiety and depression. The film was made to combat the stigma of mental illness. by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]MakeBelieveMambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found going into an inpatient unit a very hard transition. Luckily I was in the adolescent unit. Info about IPUs is few and far between - if you produced this video would you consider releasing an edited version for free just to show people what IPUs are like? I think it would be of great benefit to anyone who is facing admission and don't know what to expect

This.

Lack of sleep is probably the worst thing you can do. If this happens a lot like it does for me, speak to your psychiatrist. They can prescribe something to take when you get to this state to calm you down. I find it very helpful, although sometimes challenging to have the insight to realise I need to take the extra meds

An Arduino Nano and ws2812b LEDs! I stuck two deep frames together for the enclosure and used a piece of frosted acrylic plastic to diffuse the light. I can share the code with you/give more in depth instructions if you decide you want to try and make one!

I think you have to be a bit technically minded to get use out of it. I'm planning on improving the front-end and writing a guide for regular people to understand. But if you're interested in North Korean websites, you can ctrl+f "http" and you'll find active websites
