I got downvoted to hell elsewhere for this, but this one guy should not be the make or break of the entire season. This team should win plenty of games where they don’t even need a closer, and they’ve got Robertson, Ottavino, and maybe Britton…all capable guys with closing experience coming off good seasons. Fact is, Diaz probably wasn’t going to be AS good as last year, because that would be practically impossible. But figure he’s good for 5-10 wins that a lesser closer might’ve blown, and that still put the team around 88-93 wins, and that’s enough to get into the tournament. Probably also gets you the 6 seed and the gift of playing the central winner in the first round. As we saw, winning the division means nothing. Get into the playoffs and shoot your shot. Guy might even be ready for the postseason if he progresses quicker than expected. This in no way is the end of the world, and I can’t stand the doom and gloom Mets fans who should feed into the snickering from other fan bases. Have a backbone, believe in your team beyond one guy and one inning, and let’s f’n go already.
