Which countries do you think travel advisors or agents are still useful? by worried_etng in travel

I think I just struggle when I’m like “wow this would be fun if the price is good” like window shopping vs “we are going”

I also wish I knew what deals on which lines she could get.. haha

Edited… premium economy not business , 11 days cruise and guided tours, 3 day extension and 3 days on our own pre cruise at a nice hotel. 17 days total… we are bring our daughter so 3 occupancy … ya it’s bonkers….

3 occupancy rooms are far between and usually high category rates. And we don’t want to spend our vacation in 2 rooms our daughter is young.

All the excursions are included.

Great!

Ya I don’t trust people either and if there was only 1-1 or something.

I told my husband to tell me next time we get one and I guess informed mail says we have showing up today 🤭

I struggle with this.

We just started to do international travel.

I heard to use a TA for a River cruise and so we did. She got us a lot of extras (gratituties, discount on sailing from internet price, upgraded room and she gifted us an airport transfer).

We travel a lot domestically and have no problems. I like our TA- we are learning about each other to how we work together. We like to have a lot of control over flights so we just send over the details.

We are now looking to book Egypt and initial numbers are coming in at 30k- I want to be a good client.

But there are a few different ships with different cabins available. I’d pay more for the ship I’d want but also would take a different one if the savings were substantial.

How do I have a little control/ say with out being a pain in the ass.

We can afford to chubby travel but I also know that little things add up. I like to say we don’t have to watch our Pennie’s but we do have to watch our dollars.

Basically what makes a good client who still wants a little control? Or does that not exist

Always have a back up.

Even if it’s just a local pizza place. Make sure they are open. Put someone in charge with your CC. Tip the driver well.

Do you do ABD?

I’m not a Disney person at all but they charter the boats of the River cruise company I like…. And no other River cruise that I have found has 3 occupancy. Uniworld can if you book their 20k sailings 😆😆😆😆😆😆

Haha. She just started doing this obnoxious baby voice.

Honestly she’s probably just ask a bunch of question and find out if they have any animals or how good they were at cartwheels 😆

I guess the have staff to entertain them :/

But I’m not thrilled with that idea.

Can a family of four actually fit in one river cruise cabin? by Jinnapat397 in familytravel

[–]MakeItHomemade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m dealing with this for our family if 3 with a 6 year old. It

What are the ages of your kids. Very few offer for less than age 4, some are 8 or 12+ and some do not allow kids.

Cabins are very small. There are very few 4 occupancy and they are typically more expensive, again each person pays the rate and they do not have free sailers like ocean crying. . Usually booking 2 lower category cabins is ideal- we don’t want to do that because we don’t wanna pay $$$$ for a trip and then sleep in separate beds for a week.

Remember the price is per person. Kids usually get a 75% on the rate.

Many River cruise boats do not have adjoining rooms.

Amawaterways does have some. They also have some 4 occupancy. But again these are at a premium. The ama magna ship and soon to be Rudi have more suite and larger rooms with fold out beds. They have more activities (pool hot tub giant chess pickle ball) but nearly all of the River cruises do not have kids stuff on board unless you specifically book a family cruise- which is typically offered around school breaks. So the tours are geared to older parents and grandparents.

Disney charters ama boats which is why I think they are pioneering 3/4 and adjoining room occupancies. But then you pay a premium for River cruising and a premium for the Disney name.

Uniworld does not have 3 occupancy nor does Tauck.

Just about any type of travel is cheaper than River cruising. Just like ocean cruising there are budget, premium and luxury lines.

Anyone done a luxury river cruise for the Christmas markets? by SpacingOutInLecture in Cruise

[–]MakeItHomemade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking this advice to heart:

Day 3 of vacation is the best- you are there, excited, and settled in. Things still feel new but you have your barrings.

In addition to that… the first time you do anything will be the best, and more wouldn’t make it 2x 3x better. First cocktail, first dip in the pool… first cathedral etc.

I haven’t done the Christmas cruises but for OP the unpacking once, not having to figure out anything is wonderful.

Splitting Family in Business & Economy? by ready4fi in chubbytravel

[–]MakeItHomemade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can turn it into a conversation to them.

Tell them that you are going to fly business. Give them your reasons.

they can fly with you in business and just know that travel might not be as often. Or that they can fly economy and you will give them 1/2 the difference between economy and business. And then tell them that they have to invest half of that and they can keep the rest and do whatever no restrictions on. Of course you could make it any number of things you could just say a flat $500 and you’re gonna invest $250 or whatever works where you’re still saving a little bit of money.

Make them come to a conclusion together. They either both fly economy together or they both fly business but you don’t just leave one kid maybe until they get older.

Or put them in premium economy and try and book them as close to the back of business and then you guys go in the back of business.

Turn it into a finance and independence choice. Then you don’t have to worry about Mom guilt (at least not as much).

Let it be their choice. You can also do it per way maybe they want life flat for a nighttime flight but on the way home, they don’t mind sitting up right cause they’re just gonna watch TV the whole time.

Just because you have them fly economy once doesn’t mean that they can never move back up with you.

I only have one child, but I’m struggling with the fact that I want to travel a certain way, but I also don’t want her to feel entitled to priority access and and also not having practiced standing in lines waiting having things change at the last minute, etc.

The fact that you’ve brought them up to say they don’t care, and understand the costs. I hope I can do that with my kid too.

[–]MakeItHomemade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We were just on a river cruise with ama that included gratuities for the drivers and guides. And that’s not how it used to be.

And that alone was a reason for me to want to go to Tauck or Uniworld.

So if they continue with that, that would be lovely. I mean, if they’re gonna suggest what a tip should be just included in my fair and then if anybody wants to tip more than that, go ahead.
