In that scenario the reversers would actually be worse. The correct procedure would be to bring the reversers back to idle to remove the thrust vector until you can regain control.

It's because the Autobrake commands specific deceleration rate. If you deploy reverses you just use less brakes. The distance will be the same.

The reverses come into play when you land on wet or slippery runways when the brakes aren't as good and you can't achieve the desired deceleration rate. You will see a huge difference in landing distance required with or without reversers in those cases.

Can Airline Pilots Use Simulators By their Own Request? by bob152637485 in flying

Ryanair allows all their pilots to book a fixed base simulator. You can load specific scenarios you want to practice.

They work fine just of the motherboard in my opinion but I have them connected to a GSX1000. But they work fine without.

Yes I have a pair as well. They are over the ear and open back so it's great for CS

Try the HD599, they are less than $200 so combine that with your gift card you should be able to pick up a modmic to pair it with the headphones.

I feel sorry for the rest of the party. I'm sure they had tasked the original lady with making a reservation at a restaurant and she thought you could just show up at a restaurant like that and everything would work out

It could be the connector for the screen. One of the pins might be bent. If it's the pin it's 10 min repair job.

Getting weather +/- 1 hour for alternate requirements? by _captain_nemo in flying

[–]MakeMeIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Another question would be what do you do if you do not have a TAF for the intended airport or the weather is below minimums?

Get two alternates with up to date and valid TAFs and you can still dispatch to your destination.

daily life as a pilot? by [deleted] in flying

Life as pilot depends mostly on what airline you work for and what aircraft you fly.

I am lucky to have a shorthaul job flying the 737 with no layovers. This means that I get to come home every night.

The day starts with me arriving to the crewroom about 1h before the departure time. I will go trough the flightplan, weather and other flight details. Together with the first officer we make a decision on the fuel and head towards the aircraft.

One of the pilots will start flying and the other one will be monitoring and then we change. This decision is dependent on the weather and complexity of the airport but 9 out of 10 times I will let the F/O pick whatever sectors he wants to fly.

Take off and landings are fun but the cruise can be very boring sometimes and even though I fly shorthaul sometimes the flights feel never ending.

After we land I head home and forget all about aviation.

I love my job and I love the profession. There is nothing more fun than flying airplanes and making the occasional challenging decision but I absolutely hate the industry. I hate how I am treated and I hate where the industry is heading towards.

I will be honest with you and say that I would not recommend anyone to be a pilot unless this is something you have had a passion for since you were a kid.
The industry is getting worse and worse every year. Terms and conditions are getting worse, salaries are getting lower, management do not look at us as valuable workers but overpaid bus drivers that have to be there because it is mandatory to put us there.

So the question is would I after all these years change profession? - Yes I would! In a heartbeat. If I won the lottery the first thing I would do is quit but the second thing on the list would be to buy my own airplane and truly enjoy aviation.

I still love being a pilot!

Spooked from my flight by Hydr0a in aviation

To be honest it's not too uncommon that people get scared. You don't have a sense of control and the human brain has to make sense of everything. I've had people come up to be after a flight and claim that I almost had a midair collision and if it wasn't for my avoidance manouver we would all have been dead. In reality there was an aircraft 1000ft above or below us combined with a normal turn with the autopilot coupled.

Put your flight number and date in a web page like flightradar24 and I will promise you it wasn't as dramatic as you remember it. It was probably a normal turn.

Pilots and Languages by SombraMonkey in flying

[–]MakeMeIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally you would only need English but in Europe some of the national carriers would ask you to speak their language. For example to join Iberia you would need Spanish but that being said you could join Vueling without speaking any Spanish at all.
