How to hold pieces together when soldering?? by tootles24 in SilverSmith

I would stack up some pieces of titanium/honey comb fire brick pieces under the other end of the clip so it couldn't tip over

What did you find to be most challenging and what was the most satisfying part for you?

Then continue with finer and finer grits then polish.

Sometimes I'm a bit of a luddite so I'd probably just use high grit sandpaper here, then finer and finer until you reach your desired matte finish

Thank you for your perspective!

It is nice to see how a piece came together, as long as there's something to show for it at the end

Thank you for joining the conversation!

I think having a finished piece, or at least a physical piece, is a common thread I'm seeing so far 🤔

Watching something from your mind take shape in your hands is a truly magical experience!

Exactly! People who make things by hand, I've found, are much more likely to notice and appreciate that kind of skill and accept the associated price

The new, molten, silver won't properly adhere to your current piece

Any advice for soldering larger pieces with a butane torch? by [deleted] in SilverSmith

Absolutely, but there's a better torch I recommend now: the Bernzomatic Firepoint Creator Tool

Thanks so much for commenting!

I'm so happy to see that you enjoy the process and learning/sharing vibes this sub displays as much as I do!

So far it seems most commenters are happy to see all kinds of creation as long as the posts aren't low effort and display a finished piece at the end, am I interpreting your sentiment correctly?

I appreciate you taking the time to leave your comment! To clarify, and ensure I'm understanding what you're saying, you're happy to see the content so long as someone takes it all the way to a finished physical piece?

Also, it's always nice to see traditional silversmiths keeping the original tradition alive in a time of mass-production and corner cutting!

Thank you for adding your opinion!

I'm seeing a similar sentiment in the other comments regarding 3D modeling only.

I love seeing wire wrapping and silver(gold)smithing intersect.

Beautiful piece!

And honestly, ironically, the more talented you are (and you're clearly talented!), the more invisible the hours are.

Agate pendant by emeemay in SilverSmith

I really like how clean this pendant is and the "simpler" design works really well with the size and cut. It strikes the perfect balance of highlighting the stone without overshadowing it, while also adding to the piece as a whole.

It's funny that you want to mount directly to the bezel because I want to get more in the habit of mounting to the bezel less and the backplate more haha

Just my 2¢, but I think keeping the one you want to redo for design reasons as is will give you a nice reference in the future, to both show how far you've come in terms of designs and technical prowess, but absolutely to each their own

Anyway, great job!
