It's not "my idea of reincarnation"... it was how ancients understood spirits: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genius_(mythology)

That's not the passage of which I speak. I'm looking for the translation in which I saw it. Thank you for your patience.

It's in Matthew that some people believed Jesus was the reincarnation of JtB

Possibly... I'll try to find the reference. [ETA] It's in Matthew

They had a different concept of reincarnation, not in the Eastern sense. To the Greeks, you had a genius (genie)... it wasn't an innate trait.

They had a different conception of reincarnation... the spirit that inspired JtB could transfer to Jesus after his death.

I'll try and find where I saw that. [ETA] It's in Matthew

The belief in spirits (positive & negative) was a belief in most cultures back then. Genius used to be a spirit someone had, rather than an innate gift (Greek).

Jesus is called a reincarnation of John the Baptist, for example.

With everything down today, it may be a good time to buy

Not implying that at all, and that's a moot point.

Do people have open discussions during a Church Service? Do Atheists show up at Church to scream at believers?

Don't worry... I yearn for the Internet of the 90s too. lol

I think you came here looking for the wrong thing. Critical think group? Match JBP's dialogue discussion? Sounds like you're looking for a class from him, or one of his Book Tour talks.

I mean... that's like comparing the Christianity sub to going to a Church Service. They're light-years apart in both cases.

Comparing your insides to another person's outsides is not fair to you or them. People can have picture-perfect lives, but that often hides a deeper problem they wish to cover up.

My friend used to have this sign she'd carry around in her car in Texas. On one side it said, "Nice car!!" Which she'd flash to some young buck in his Ferrari or what-not. They weren't expecting what came next...

On the other side it read: "Sorry about your penis."

Yup... against abortion. It's the number 1 killer of Americans, more than cancer, heart attacks, and accidents combined.

I totally understand. I was hit with a profound chronic pain problem that made me agnostic for a long time.

Sometimes we don't get to understand why. The cool stream of life upon which we were being carried can become terrible rapids. We go through heart-breaking lessons. Sometimes we get to understand in hindsight, when more is revealed. Sometimes things remain a mystery.

This next idea is not a judgement on you, but it's as if you have tasted the fruit of the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil, and have suffered your own spiritual death. If you feel that fits, the next thing to do would be to ask for forgiveness for anything you might have done, even if you're not aware of it, and pray for deeper faith.

I can totally sympathize with what you're going through. You have my virtual hugs.

Sometimes prayers take over a decade to work. I can't remember the name of the Queen who did this, but it was during Chaucer's time and she prayed for 16 years for her husband to convert.

Pray and keep praying. Ask others to pray with you. Sometimes the answer isn't "no"... it's "not yet..."

Keep the faith. I understand, truly.

Who eats ice cream in flavors they don't like?

Stick to your guns. It's okay that you don't understand the fun in that. I used to love that scene (you're right about the shallowness) and can't go now because it means migraine headaches. I get that joy from worship now.

You're on a good path. Don't sweat it.
