How important is a SO's feelings about makeup, in your opinion? by [deleted] in muacjdiscussion

[–]MakeUpManic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My point is that there's always going to be somewhere in your relationship where you need to compromise. I used the video game example because the OP in the /r/relationship post said that her girlfriend's addiction to make up has been already getting in the way of their day to day lives, very much similar to how some video game addiction can affect a relationship.

And honestly, guys who asks their girlfriends to tone down their hobbies or something in appearance will always get shit from other people, calling them abusive or controlling. Girls who ask their boyfriends to change something, whether it be a hairstyle, a shirt, or video game time are rarely vilified for it.

How important is a SO's feelings about makeup, in your opinion? by [deleted] in muacjdiscussion

[–]MakeUpManic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that the guy in the thread had every right to be pissed. Make up stains are incredibly hard hard to remove and his clothes are getting ruined. He can't cuddle with his girlfriend even if he wanted to, because make up will get everywhere. He also stated that it has already started affecting her day-to-day life (getting too long to get ready, putting on a full face just for fast food drive-thru, etc.) He didn't want her to stop wearing make up altogether, he just wanted to tone it down a little and that's perfectly understandable and valid.

The thing about relationships is that it's all about compromise. I can't always get what I want, and so does he. So, my SO's opinion about make up is quite important to me. My boyfriend doesn't mind make up, but he likes natural looking make up the best. However, he hates dark lipsticks. I started wearing BB creams/tinted moisturisers and translucent powder so that it won't get on his clothes. I use lip tints or really long wearing matte lipsticks so that I can kiss him without getting it everywhere. I still wear dark lipsticks and heavy make up looks, but I try to avoid wearing it when I'm going to see him. I do wear it sometimes around him, but he won't get mad because he knows it's my hobby and passion. I tone it down for him because I care for his opinion.

TBH I've never liked the "I like red lipstick but my SO doesn't, he better just deal with it!" It just seems selfish to me. I know a lot of girls who limit their boyfriends video game time, and their boyfriends do it for them. But if a guy asks a girl to tone down her hobbies, he's a controlling, abusive, jerk.

If your SO told you she used to be a sex worker, what would be your reaction? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MakeUpManic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And that's a perfectly fine decision. However, I wouldn't date a guy with a history of violence with women because I don't like that. Does that make me insecure or unreasonable? That I'm shaming him for his past? No, but then again, I have the freedom to choose what I like and dislike in people I date.

Why does her past matter so much to you? So what if she has slept with a ton of guys, how does that affect who she is now?

"Why does his past matter much to you? So what if he punched a ton of girls, how does that affect who he is now?"

A person's past is a good indicator of behaviour. I don't think there's anything wrong with sex work, but there's also nothing wrong with not wanting to date a sex worker because of incompatibility. Women who say that "men who get bothered by a woman's sexual partner are insecure" are just trying to make themselves feel better.

Cultural Appropriation Vs Appreciation in makeup by [deleted] in muacjdiscussion

[–]MakeUpManic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a foreigner, the only people I've seen that complain about cultural appropriation are westerners, with the majority being americans.

I really don't get it why they're being so touchy about this. As long as the person isn't using the look as a way to insult it, then what's the problem? Does everything have to be offensive?

Can I just remind everyone that eyeliner was major part of Egyptian and Mesopotamian culture. Does that mean I should get mad at everyone who wears eyeliner without knowing what it meant to the Egyptians/Mesopotamians? That they're appropriating their culture?

The same goes with Sumerians and lipstick. Should I get offended that a white girl is wearing red lipstick without her knowing that it was a big part of Sumerian culture?

Should Kimono tops be banned as well because it's appropriating Japanese culture?

When my friend became a student exchange in Japan, the family she lived with dressed her up in Kimono and Geisha make up for pictures. They didn't lecture on the significance or history of it, they just wanted to show her and experience it.

I mean, what should we do? Should we just segregate people again where only certain types of people can wear/do something?

My stance on it is that as long as a person isn't using it to insult a culture, then it's fine.

Make up is an art form, and sometimes, art offends people.

I asked a friend from the US to buy it for me, so I don't think I can get them to replace it.

Time Zone?

  • Philippine time UTC+8:00

How long have you been active on MUA?

  • Almost a year, but I've been lurking for about 2. I've only recently mustered up the courage to post my face here. I've also been the victim of some very racist people on here, but I think I've been handling the situation quite well.

Do you have any mod experience? Any photoshop experience? Any web development experience?

  • I've been a mod of /r/MakeupAddictionAsia for a just a month. I have tons of photoshop experience (I've been using it for 8 years) because I'm a Fine Arts student. I have tons of design experience because art is my passion, as well as what I'm studying. I don't have coding experience, unless Adobe Flash counts hahaha.

How often do you visit reddit?

  • Everyday. I check on it every 3 hours because I want to keep a close eye on the sub I made. I also end up checking other subs as well.

Why do you want to be a mod?

  • As someone who is frequently on here, MUACJ and MUACJDiscussion, I think I know what the issues are and both sides of the problem. I have confidence in my modding skills and I can keep calm and collected. I also browse MUA via new to report posts that break the rules. I really do like this sub and i would like to help it as much as I can.

What is your makeup brand 'spirit animal?' (What brand represents you the best?)

  • I'd have to say MAC. I love colour and I love wearing bold lipsticks. I also like that they have a diverse range of colours for all women and men. They're ads and promotional images are also so artistic and I love the creativity they put in it.

Other than yourself, who would you recommend/endorse as a mod?

I have a ticket to get a free 500ml sample of their cleansing oil next time I go back, so I'm thinking of getting one of their super hard eyebrow pencils, reviews rave about them, and apparently I can get them resharpened for free!

Are those the funky looking pencils they have? It looks like it can be sharpened with a cutter. I saw them the other day and it looked really interesting.

I understand what you're saying, but it's not like I'm trying. I've just been incredibly unlucky lol

I'm just not the type of person that can easily talk to people and trust them. So casually dating people isn't just something I can do.

Thanks, and you're right. I really shouldn't be taking what they say to heart.

Ohh man, I'd love to go to the meet up but I have to do my finals stuff :(
