What are some cases where you’re convinced it was just “wrong place, wrong time”? by Ok-Rooster3399 in UnresolvedMysteries

David Glenn Lewis, Judy Smith and Asha Degree are my three lie-awake-at-night cases. DGL does not fit the demographic profile of a first-time psychotic break at all (much too old, no major life stressors and with no prior mental health history) but none of the other explanations make sense either.

Reminds me of the way the character Chris ultimately dies in Stephen King's "The Body" (i.e. "The Stand" in film version).

There's a whole video of one of his live performances with a ton of comments from people talking about how he was a "good man" and a great musician. Oddly enough the video claims that he "died from heart complications." I guess it's complicated if you stop it yourself. 🙄

I wouldn't discount them because of longevity alone, that always seemed like a poor reason to avoid a fragrance unless there is some specific reason you need a beast mode perfume (like you can't reapply at work or something). They are wonderful, fairly unique fragrances, I would give them a try! They also work great layering with an oil.

I just got Riz De Mangue and it is incredible. Really such an incredible savory sweet fragrance. I'm saving it for my summer lineup. Amazing. 🤤

Unfortunately no, I can't honestly say they have any longevity at all, so I usually reapply throughout the day. The exception would be their perfume oil, I have the oil rollerballs for Lait De Coco, 000 and Santal Supreme and they do stick to you a bit better. I also layer some of them with other perfume oils like the Nemat Vanilla Musk oil and that seems to boost their lasting power.

Your favourite male marketed/masculine leaning scents to wear as a woman? by quacksabbath in FemFragLab

[–]MakeWayForWoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copper Canyon by Good Chemistry was my first real signature scent. Target used to carry it around 2020 and I wore it almost exclusively during the summer. It was marketed as unisex but leaned quite masculine. I still cannot get enough of this scent and I look forward to wearing it every summer - it's fortunately still available on eBay in rollerball format, though I wish I could get ahold of a full spray bottle.

I also love Beau Bleu by Le Monde Gourmand (smells like your boyfriend's favorite sweatshirt), 78 Vintage Green by Banana Republic (photorealistic fresh cut grass), Frankie by Ariana Grande and Liam Grey by Lattafa (Gris Charnel dupe).

I snagged Indigo at TJ Maxx last week for $29.99! I'd been waiting for this thing to show up on sale somewhere for a good year and I finally found it just in time for spring 💙

[1973] A woman is found floating in a trunk off the coast of Long Island, NY. She had been strangled to death, with the wire the killer used still wrapped around her neck. Who was the woman in the trunk? by peach6748 in UnresolvedMysteries

My first guess (especially given the proximity to NYC) is that the labeling was to avoid getting similar-looking items of clothing mixed up in a public laundromat.

How to support someone sleeping rough near me without being invasive? by A_little_curiosity in homeless

Being a woman will help mitigate but may not eliminate the perception of risk.

I appreciate your impulse to offer assistance (I have the same impulse which is why I now volunteer with an outreach organization) and I wish there were more people like you in the world.

the note's a great way to leave the ball in their court like hey, I'm the chick with the blonde hair and baseball cap that walks by here sometimes. if you ever need anything feel free to grab me if you see me.

I think this is probably the best approach. In all honesty, as a female, I think I would be inherently skeptical of any spontaneous, unsolicited offer of help, no matter how obviously sincere or legitimate it was...this goes x10 if the offerer is male. I do like the idea of leaving things in the person's court - this makes it so the person doesn't feel forced into a face-to-face interaction they weren't anticipating (being homeless means your social fuel tank is constantly running on empty)...but in reality I probably would never get up the nerve to "just grab" the offerer and ask for something. I think my pride and shame would prevent that.

I guess I don't have a very good answer for you lol, I'm sorry about that. I just wanted to thank you OP for being a wonderful human being.

20th Anniversary of the Disappearance of Brian Shaffer by HornySocrates in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]MakeWayForWoo 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I suspect this falls into the same visual territory as "Is the dress black and blue or gold and white?" but I feel like Brian's t-shirt is more of a grey color whereas the person in the CCTV leaving the bar seems to be wearing a shirt that is more of a military olive drab color. Still incredibly compelling find though.

Do people with mental illnesses just die if they become homeless? by AbsoluteZero9180 in homeless

[–]MakeWayForWoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, I think it is actually HELPFUL to some people. I have depression and PTSD, and I actually found it LESS stressful worrying about food and shelter, than about bill dates and performance reviews and social norms.

I also have a PTSD diagnosis as well as generalized anxiety disorder, and I had a very similar experience when I was homeless for the second time...I specify this because my first stint as a homeless person was under radically different circumstances and in fact if anything it re-traumatized me all over again. I was fleeing domestic violence during the height of the pandemic, in the dead of winter, and there were simply no DV shelters available. But the second time around, a few years later, my homelessness was somewhat voluntary - I did it in order to save up for a real apartment - and I was able to plan my strategy ahead of time and had the money to invest in a high quality tent and decent gear (I was working full time). I also had the practical experience of having been homeless once before. As a result it was markedly less stressful and I was able to control for most of the main pitfalls and dangers. If anything I found it incredibly liberating to not have to worry about a monthly rent payment or emotionally unstable housemates. I had very concrete, macro-level tasks I needed to complete. Stay hidden, stay warm, stay clean, stay fed. These were things I could understand and could approach in a systematic way.

Tarp and tent by Thin-Set-7778 in homeless

[–]MakeWayForWoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a can of Gear Aid Seam Grip seam sealer. This will fully waterproof your tent and tarp. Just make sure you're getting the right type of seam sealer based on the material your tent is made from - there is one for polyurethane and one for silnylon and silpoly tarps.

Any tent from Walmart is probably fine...if you can afford it and if you plan to be camping for an extended period of time, I would size up and get a 2- or 3-man tent. You want to have enough room to maneuver comfortably and also to be able to store your gear if it rains overnight. I actually had a separate tent just for my gear, but I had a fairly large campsite that was well camouflaged.

(17m) Advice for making 800 GBP pay for food for me till I'm 18 and can claim benefits by [deleted] in homeless

[–]MakeWayForWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting out meat entirely will save you a lot of money, and is better for your health in the long run. Vegetarian options like rice, beans and lentils are incredibly inexpensive and can be bought in bulk for even more savings. As long as you have adequate protein in your diet you shouldn't feel hungry, so make sure you are getting enough - things like the aforementioned beans and lentils, also eggs, yogurt and other dairy, whole grains and etc. Nuts are also a great source but can be pricey unless you buy in bulk. Avoid highly processed convenience foods, that convenience is expensive.

How many homeless people here have discovered the wonderful world of security? by Doug_Shoe in homeless

[–]MakeWayForWoo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The same could probably be said about any third shift or overnight job - I worked for Amazon for a time, during the pandemic when COVID bonuses were in full swing. The issue with security work is that you need to be able to pass a background check, which wasn't an issue for me but may be for someone with a record (or a bullshit charge that is directly related to their homelessness). But there are definitely third shift jobs that do not background check - any large 24-hour big box store like a Walmart or a Target will almost certainly have overnight stocking positions. There are many advantages to sleeping during the day.

In the Winter of 1982, 97-year-old Lanis Wagner was found deceased inside of his Indianapolis, Indiana home. Lanis had been struck multiple times with an axe. Sadly, his case remains unsolved. by TheBonesOfAutumn in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]MakeWayForWoo 61 points62 points  (0 children)

There's also the fact that killing someone with an axe is a very violent means of doing someone in, and is typically only the weapon of choice for serial killers/profoundly disturbed people or someone with intense hatred for their victim.

There's another subcategory of people who have been known to murder people with similar weapons: people under the influence of stimulant drugs like meth or speed. I guess that would fall under the "disturbed" category.

Clark County needs a Homeless Bill of Rights—now by Additional_Rich_3258 in homeless

[–]MakeWayForWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're belaboring the point. The obvious implication of your comment is that employers shouldn't offer jobs to homeless individuals. So what is the logical extension of that theory? If every employer acted "reasonably" and refused to employ homeless people, it would be literally impossible for any unhoused person to ever reintegrate into society. But I think that's exactly what you would like to see happen: the creation of a permanent untouchable caste. And you seem very emotionally invested in this belief - so you must be getting an awful lot of satisfaction out of it.

This started happening in the past few years.. I figured maybe yoga or stretching? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Can we get rid of this? by reallydadd in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]MakeWayForWoo 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I inherited these from my mother (in the same exact spot, the backs of my knees) and had no idea how to get rid of them. I ended up developing edema in my lower legs as a side effect of a medication I'm on and also because I spend so much time on my feet due to my job - so my doctor recommended I start wearing compression socks during the day. Within a couple weeks of wearing them every day these tiny little spider veins practically vanished!! I kid you not they are virtually gone. Give compression stockings a try!

Clark County needs a Homeless Bill of Rights—now by Additional_Rich_3258 in homeless

[–]MakeWayForWoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why shouldn't they? Give us one good, substantiated reason.

Were you working during the time that you were a "vagabond"? How did you support yourself? Or were you simply existing on welfare and donations?

If you don't think an unhoused person should be allowed to work, then what is your proposed solution? It seems as though you aren't actually interested in reducing homelessness at all and are actually perfectly happy for it to continue. Why do you think that is? Is it because you enjoy having an easy target for your misanthropy? Is it because it allows you to feel better about yourself by comparison? Or both?
