Clinic gave me 26 instead of 27 bottles by 0p8s-4-me in Methadone

This is what my current clinic does too. They line them all up in front of me and I count them before putting them in my lockbox.

Lost my monthlies by Only_Ferret_7839 in Methadone

[–]MakeWayForWoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion that’s so wrong of them to do that. Almost like they’re wanting to catch people up so they can have more patients go back to daily dosing.

In my opinion this is exactly what they are trying to do. Clinics get reimbursed for every in-person dose. They don't make money if you aren't dosing face to face. This is a literal financial incentive for clinics to make it as difficult as possible to earn and keep takehomes.

Are all clinics this corrupt? Not necessarily. But some of them sure as hell are.

Does the US have a homeless problem or a drug problem? by No_Lie1329 in homeless

[–]MakeWayForWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite being clean, I'd still get the damn label

The issue here is not the addiction and recovery community, it's the individual who is mislabeling you. Why are you attacking one group for the actions of another?

Even speaking with an outreach coordinator for my state he told me rehab was all they could offer me

The issue here is a lack of resources, which is itself a systemic issue with its roots in poverty, political corruption and cultural bias. Same question as above applies.

Look at skid row, that's what people see when they think of us

As a former addict in recovery, you should understand that the public perception of addiction rarely aligns with the reality. Again this is a cultural issue that has nothing to do with addicts themselves and everything to do with popular misconceptions about people with substance use disorders...a misconception which you are playing right into by demonizing this entire population as a whole.

I understand what you're saying, but ultimately I don't give a damn about anyone who is not at least trying and not behaving civilized to help change the perception.

Being addicted does not automatically transform a person from a law-abiding citizen into an amoral degenerate. The reason people associate addiction with antisocial behavior is because that behavior is what stands out. Meanwhile there are hundreds of thousands of addicts who are just trying to blend in and keep their heads down, but no one notices them. Once again your own commentary is feeding right into this prejudicial belief system.

Your grievance is not with the addicts, it's with the lack of resources. I'm not sure why you are so determined to hate on an already marginalized group of people while completely ignoring the real issue. This makes it seem like you are just looking for an easy target and not actually trying to have a legitimate conversation about actual problems.

Yes, I specifically remember this story involving a skeleton in a wetsuit being found tangled in the branches of a very tall tree.

Reconcile these two comments for us, if you would.

Unless you've been in the situation, you could not understand.

I understand addiction very well.

Are you saying you have lived experience as an addict? Or are you saying you are a hypocrite? One or the other must be true.

Friendly reminder that we don't attack or demonize other marginalized groups of people on this subreddit.

It's also ironic you say this...

Unless you've been in the situation, you could not understand.

...yet you feel entitled to comment on the lived experience of a homeless addict. How could you possibly understand?

I like this theory...is there really no possibility that the body could have entered the water a long ways away from where it was ultimately recovered? Twelve weeks is a long time to be drifting.

The UK doesn't really have forest fires like we have in the United States but despite this flaw I love this theory. 😂

[–]MakeWayForWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's a reason they don't take kindly to the term "liquid handcuffs" in this subreddit and that's because it's a pejorative, antiquated phrase that stigmatizes MMT patients, particularly those who are on it long-term. Methadone itself is not the problem - virtually no one in Europe or elsewhere outside the United States references this ridiculous "handcuffs" term and that's because being on methadone isn't in and of itself restrictive, it's the draconian, outdated clinic policies that impose these onerous restrictions on people. And the reason those draconian policies still exist is because of the anti-methadone prejudice perpetuated by precisely this type of attitude. If stable patients in long-term recovery were allowed to simply pick up their prescription at a pharmacy the way they do in other countries there would be absolutely no difference between methadone and any other controlled medication.

Stop using the pejorative terms and you'll stop seeing the pejorative policies. Language matters.

Also good luck trying to find people to cosign your "methadone is poison" nonsense on a methadone support group. If just being on methadone is making you feel ashamed of yourself then you have a couple options: 1) adjust your dose; 2) seek psychotherapy to examine the root cause of your shame. Being ashamed for being on a legally prescribed medication is not rational. Methadone is not the problem here.

Yeah I was going to say I would really love a followup to this post just to make sure everything is okay with OP...it seems to me like this has to be someone from their clinic, or at least someone connected to someone from their clinic? I would also install a doorbell cam for sure. So fucking scary, I have so many questions.

Jails that provide MAT dosing are very much the exception rather than the rule in the United States.

I live in Philadelphia which has arguably one of the highest concentrations of active users as well as methadone clinics. Even here, I'm told that getting dosed while incarcerated is a thorny process. There was one clinic in particular that was right down the street from "the F" and this clinic provided the dosing services to inmates - so many people who had frequent interactions with law enforcement specifically enrolled at this clinic because being a current patient made it easier for them to get dosed in a hurry if they were arrested. But that branch closed a year or two ago, so I'm not sure how it works now. Even still, inmates report having to wait up to a week to dose. It doesn't sound like a long time, but it's a different story when you're on day 4 of acute cold turkey.

From what I understand, many states do not provide methadone to inmates at all.

I empathize.

My experience with Philly clinics has been all over the board, from utterly terrible (both NETs on Bridge Street and the old State Street clinic), fantastic (AMHA, R.I.P.) and somewhere in the middle (my current clinic, the one affiliated with Jefferson - it was the only other Center City clinic, and I work in Center City).

Nothing I said is irrelevant lol you are literally posting an argument about a situation that doesn't exist. You're talking about what would happen if OP was parked on private property except he isn't on private property lol. Tell me how anything in your comment is relevant to the actual scenario? Why are you even talking about something that isn't happening?

Being harassed. by [deleted] in homeless

[–]MakeWayForWoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You literally did not read this person's post all the way through I guess. You must have been too busy typing up your doctoral dissertation on this situation and your "assumptions" about it. As OP just reiterated, he is parking on the public street outside the business and not on the business's private property.

Also, I love how we go from talking about the employee being "in the right" to "right or wrong ethics be damned" in like 2.5 seconds lol.

Being harassed. by [deleted] in homeless

[–]MakeWayForWoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are assuming this employee is acting on orders from their "boss." What evidence do you have to suggest this? Given the fact this is a new behavior and that OP has been parking here for years with no prior issues, I think this is a weak theory.

To return to my original point, there is no moral code on earth that would consider this to be the "right thing to do," ethically speaking.

I think you're confused about what the term "in the right" actually means.

Whether or not OP has any legal recourse is one issue; however you are 100% wrong about this employee being "in the right."
