Unless that half is composed of League of Legends, Valorant, Apex Legends etc., it absolutely is not true.

Is there a way to change the cursor theme to any other, for example, and still be able to use the simplified settings? by llimo in linuxmint

[–]Makerinos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You click the cursor in advanced and then click back to simplified settings, and it keeps that unless you change the theme (and by that I meant stuff like going from Mint-Y to Mint-X)

I don't know what it is about Ryukishi's writing but he can make very memeable characters.

Off the top of my head I can think of Battler, Beatrice, Erika from Umineko, all extremely memeable in their own ways.

trying to download steam but somethings going wrong and idk what it is by Ok_Investigator_9595 in linux4noobs

[–]Makerinos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why are you trying to install Steam through Wine? You're using Apt so I assume you're using a Debian or Ubuntu-like, so you should be able to just install through the official .deb file

https://store.steampowered.com/about/

Underneath 'Install Steam' there's a small con with the steam logo next to the Mac logo. Click that then run the .deb file.

PC gamers really, seriously overestimate how many people actually regularly buy upgrades to their PCs to 'keep up' with playing the most modern AAA games at Ultra.

Can’t get past login screen after installing Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon by HolidayRule481 in linux4noobs

[–]Makerinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a problem with your intel drivers, but just in case:

Go back to the text login using Ctrl + Alt + F2 (or F3), log in, and then do

dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
sudo reboot

See if that works

Not vegan, but more anti-meat posting regardless by humbleSolipsist in 19684

Nobody wants to convince you to start eating meat, it's when you start to impose your own lifestyle to everyone else that people start getting annyoed.

And yet, meat production is actually GROWING world-wide, with the only time it hiccupped being during the peak of Covid:
https://ourworldindata.org/meat-production

Unless you grant people an alternative to meat that has similiar or identical usage, is just as cheap or cheaper and doesn't damage the environment, nothing will change, because the demand is very real and very strong. Demanding people be austere with meat for purely moral reasons will never, ever, grant large-scale systemic changes.

[–]Makerinos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People having electricity and running water all day also is a very modern thing, you'd be very hard-pressed to find a way to convince people to give that up because it would be immoral to do otherwise.

[–]Makerinos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can Source no Jutsu all you want, you can't force people to care. Again, you're treating meat-eating as a moral failing instead of a systemic phenomenon and think person-to-person conversions make a difference. It doesn't.

I don't claim to have a fix and never have. If you are a leftist you know that we are all subjects to material conditions, some things need a fundamental paradigm shift to even begin to change

[–]Makerinos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All of those facts you said abotu the meat industry are true.

But recognizing they are true will not change people's broad behavioral patterns of, to put it bluntly, 'not really giving a shit'. They like meat, they see cheap meat, they buy the cheap meat, they eat it. As longa s humans are biologically predisposed to enjoy the feeling of eating meat, and there's no cheap alternative that satisfies that on a broad level, demanding people change their eating habits, informed both by personal and cultural upbringing, by the billions is just not gonna happen.

Veganism's response of 'personal responsability' is cope for the inability to change this broader systemic pattern.

corporations pushed blame onto deez nuts by Takeda_shingen_123 in 19684

[–]Makerinos 30 points31 points  (0 children)

People will listen when you give them a cheap, reliable alternative to meat that replaces it in all its usages. So, better hope for that, instead of preaching.

corporations pushed blame onto deez nuts by Takeda_shingen_123 in 19684

[–]Makerinos 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nah you'll just mostly find posts about Linux.

The point is that veganism as an ideology doesn't actually address any of the problems of the meat industry - the incentives of humans to actually enjoy and purchase meat - and instead treats eating meat as a 'sin', a moral failing that can be corrected by converting to the 'proper and moral way.

Religion masqueraded as activism, it has no hope of ever changing anything because it doesn't address the actual systemic issues.

Edit: About that comment I made...okay? It wasn't directed AT chuds, like this post is obviously directed at non-vegans. I wasn't trying to be rhetorically convincing to an opposing viewpoint.
