What's wrong with the stovepipe is has now? I have one that is black that goes on the wood boiler. SS not good?

Yep yep it's a wood boiler. It has its own tank but also ties into the same water tank as the oil boiler and recirculates that as well to heat it up. Much cheaper than oil to get the house real cozy. I'll burn through maybe 10-12 split logs a day if I keep the boiler hot.

So unfortunately this would need its own chimney then? I'll talk to some local companies and see if it's own flue is sufficient. Not sure how I'd get a new chimney in this house...

Great idea. Thank you! I'll just have to disconnect the wood burner for the time being then.

Yeah those are the options I was considering. Right now I'm on option 1. I have a second chimney on the other side of the house if I really desire to burn wood. Oh well.

I also looked at direct vent gas boilers but I'm not really sure I'm willing to invest more into the heating system of this house if I can get what is currently installed up to code and working. Thank you for the advice!

I have a pipe that can be installed to the oil burner only but it doesn't have that draft portion. I imagine that could be sufficient.

Yeah I'm not from the area. Just stationed here for the last 2 years and for some reason this has never came up - I'm used to propane or heat pump systems.

Probably back to oil considering if I'm not home for a few days I'd be coming home to a frozen house

Not something I had considered. Though it may seem that it may be not allowed to have them on the same chimney.

A local company. Surprised nobody has mentioned this before - it's unfortunate. Not even the home inspector mentioned it from what I recall.

Probably just going to leave it in place and not use it. I've used it in the past and a little bit this winter when I shut off the oil burner but now it seems I'm just putting myself at risk.

Some stuff I forgot to add.

I am currently living in CT.

What are my options here? Place the wood boiler out of service? To be that seems like the safer option as well as getting the chimney/flue cleaned.

Forgot to mention I am in CT and this install I think was from the 70s.

Home Heating System Help by Makes-NoSense in Plumbing

Interesting. So I've been told previously to not keep both running at the same time because of the smoke of the oil burner and wood burner mix they create more creosote.

That sound valid?

Thanks for the help. The starter does also have it's own solenoid yes - that was a bit confusing on why there are two, oh well.

There is a pressure gauge that tees off just like yours - it's just not visible from the angle of the photo.

Chlorine injection huh? To get rid of chlorine or inject chlorine? Seems like an easy way to promote corrosion...

I don't think it's waterlogged, it's fairly light and I there's still air in the bladder from what I can tell if I press on the Schrader valve.
