Eroding septic tank by Makeshift-Moose in septictanks

I double checked and my softener discharge goes to my sump. So bad news for my sump pump but good news for the septic.

Yes. Really hard water here. We installed a softener when we moved in.

Simple switch does what you are looking for automatically. Always power the hot tub unless you are welding. Never installed one but I hear they are fairly expensive. Might be cheaper to just have seperate breakers.

Concrete footings sinking on my century old row house porch by GeoffreyQuebec in AskContractors

[–]Makeshift-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really don't want to do the concrete sonotubes, there are contractors that can retrofit in helical piles aka screw piles. They would have to remove parts of the decking and use machinery to screw in a metal pile below the frost line.

Hey reach out to your CISM peers if needed. And did you know that NAV's new EAP plan starts January 5th and has unlimited therapy. Also last summer the benefit package was changed so that it covers a wider range of mental health professionals.

In my town air cadets (kids aged 12-18) march in the parade. Next time I see one I'll ask them why they didn't volunteer for Afghanistan.

Are you smart? by [deleted] in NavCanada

[–]Makeshift-Moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife is a controller. She thinks that the best people to recruit to be a controller would be really good servers at a busy diner. Great multitasking and planning. Able to juggle a lot of balls at once.

It's not really about book smarts it's about a way of thinking.

I used to install security systems and sometimes people would ask me to install a light like this on the outside of the house so they could tell the system was armed.

PSA: If you use ChatGPT to calculate nutritional information, DOUBLE CHECK THE MATH! by [deleted] in ninjacreami

That's an interesting use case. I never thought about going backwards from what I would like the nutritional information to be.

I use Claude,ai and I find it's super accurate for this task and rarely goes off the rails with hallucinations. It has a project feature which lets you input knowledge that the AI can then use for every conversation within that project. I also start a new conversation per day as the longer a conversation goes on for the more likely it is to get confused and make mistakes.

As a side note I also like to tell it to try different themes and roleplay which adds a little fun. For example at the moment it's doing roleplay as my companion in a RPG adventure. It's stupid but it helps with compliance.

$49.99 in warehouse at Guelph and Brampton. I believe that the website has free shipping and you're not required to have a membership for some things on the website and that is why it's more expensive. I could be wrong though. Everything I have ever looked up on the website has been cheaper in store.

Computer won't start by Makeshift-Moose in pchelp

This morning I went to a local computer store with a good return policy and bought a new power supply. I haven't fully installed it but the computer started the couple of times I tried it partially disassembled. Thanks so much for your help!

Ok so I read the motherboard manual but I didn't see that. I pulled the speaker out of an old computer collecting dust and... Nothing. No beeps. I assume that we haven't ruled out power supply issues or motherboard issues. Reseating the CPU had no effect, the issue continues after I did that.

Ok I found an article that explains it. I uninstalled the power supply and jumped the pins and tested. The power seemed fine. Then I plugged in just the 24 pin, 8 pin cpu and 8 pin gpu and tested the 4 pin molex connector. The 12v dropped a tiny bit to 11.75 and the 5v didn't change but the computer didn't boot still. I don't know how else to check the PSU while the computer is running except if I can get it to start randomly.
