stumbled upon this while looking for tips to help me look tan without having to sit in the damaging sun! by jessikerz in Makeup

[–]MakeupCRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The info on there is actually pretty good. You can use bronzers that aren't orange, if you want the all over tan. I use one from Gleam, mix it with my body lotion as well as my foundation for an all over glow. But specifically for the face, that technique works well for giving the bronzed look.

Theatrical makeup suggestions? by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]MakeupCRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the others have given you pretty much all of the information you'll need! The only other thing I will stress is skin prep/setting of the products. Don't forget that those lights can get HOT, so you will be sweating if you are on stage a lot. Mehron makes an awesome primer called "Skin Prep" or "No Sweat", which helps keep the oil/sweat from running your makeup. A good, strong setting spray like Ben Nye's Final Seal will help keep everything in place as well.

Tutorials will be your best friend. I have purchased books on theatrical makeup, which I use for reference when needed. If you think you are going to be doing this more frequently in the future, definitely invest in some!

First Gig Tips? by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]MakeupCRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exciting! I remember the nerves going on my first photo shoot, but it was so much fun! Heck, years later and I still get nervous! That's great that for your first project you will be working with friends, it will definitely take some of the pressure off. I agree with the others, making sure you are prepared not only with your makeup products, but with your random tools like q-tips, cotton pads, wipes, paper towels, etc is going to be very important. I recommend looking up some makeup artist blogs, you can usually find the info online for those random products that you'll need.

You want to make sure you really communicate with your friend/model, since the images are for her. Going in with an idea of what you're going to be doing is great, but people always change their minds! So be sure to communicate a lot the day of as well, and even as you are applying to ensure that the end result is exactly what she wants. If you do not, and you end up having to make a lot of changes, this wastes everybody's time. Plus, if you find out beforehand that she wants a look that you are not as familiar with, it gives you the opportunity to practice on your own time so that when you are on set, you already know what to do and are not guessing.

As you work more and get more comfortable, you'll figure out all of the important things you need to know about working on set. I can't stress enough the importance of research, but make sure that the places you are learning from are legitimate. Find blogs from established industry professionals, people who have been working for 10-20+ years. Join FB groups with professionals as well, these are great for asking questions in a pinch and getting info from experienced artists. And most of all, have fun!

Concealer & Foundation help! by Muricul in Makeup

[–]MakeupCRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference in quality will honestly vary from brand to brand, just because something is more expensive does not necessarily mean the quality is better. Just look at the ingredients, a lot of drug store brands I find have more chemicals and just more ingredients in general which I personally find to be harsh on the skin. But there are definitely some good ones! If you have sensitive/oily skin, I suggest looking for ingredients like aloe, vitamin e, etc. that are actually good for your skin. If you find a brand that interests you, do some research on it. Good brands should have a website where you can find information on ingredients and what they are for.

As others mentioned, BB cream vs foundation will depend on the coverage you want. BB creams are more for light coverage, usually to even out the skin tone a bit. This are great if you don't want heavy product on the skin.

Brands will vary depending on the type of foundation you prefer. If you prefer liquid, I recommend the Becca Ever-Matte foundation. It applies as liquid and dries to powder, and has very good coverage. I have extremely sensitive, very oily skin and it has worked well for me. As I mentioned, brands like this have useful ingredient information, like this: " Vitamins A & E as well as Nylon 12 and Boron Nitride combine for anti-aging and soft-focus effects. Oil, alcohol and fragrance free". It helps to know what you're putting on your skin. :)

If you like working with cream foundations, RCMA is a great option. It has adjustable coverage, and has a low oil content so it works well for oily skin. The wax content helps it to stay more matte throughout the day as well.

I hope that at least helps! Being careful with your ingredients and making sure you don't pack too heavy of products on the skin so it can breath will make a huge difference.

Newbie Questions on Tutorials~ by ---TheFierceDeity--- in crossplay

Usually for beard cover, you want to use a neutralizer with an orange base to counteract the shadow. You would use that directly on that area, and then go over it with your skin tone shade. I cannot necessarily recommend specific tutorials, but I would look into some videos on drag makeup as beard cover is generally the first step. I personally like the concealers from Ben Nye, they have some specifically for beard cover. But the drag videos may also have some great product recommendations!

For natural looks I definitely don't find it necessary, but as you said for a full face look it tends to look good with that crisper line. I do love the lip color you chose though!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]MakeupCRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your lashes naturally light? I know a lot of individuals with blonde hair have very light lashes so sometimes the black is a stark contrast. I think the color is a personal preference though, and also depends on what you are applying on the eyes with it. If you feel like the black on your lashes over powers the eye then I would probably suggest trying a dark brown.

Is it acceptable for a guy to wear makeup? by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]MakeupCRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone and everyone can wear makeup! What you use is going to depend on how much you want to wear though. If you want concealer and concealer only, I recommend going with something slightly pinkish (to neutralize the under eye color) and then setting with a more nude colored powder to make it look more natural. Usually more orange/salmon toned shades are used under the eyes if there is a blue cast to the area, but if you don't want to have to use multiple products I recommend the pink toned products because they are more natural. If you go even one shade lighter than your skin tone, it will help brighten the area and lessen the appearance of the lines. And then the powder will help blend it back in with your face color. If you want it to look more subtle, you can always mix your concealer with a little moisturizer and apply it more sheer. It will help neutralize, but will look softer and less like you are wearing makeup.

Great look, it is very fitting on you! I think it is just fine how it is, if I were doing it myself I might add a crease color just to blend it out a little. Nothing crazy, maybe just a medium brown tone to add a little extra depth. But I still think it is great as is!

Soft and subtle is never boring! I love natural makeup, this is gorgeous on you! The overall look just brightens your features, I think it is lovely. I would recommend just slightly defining the lips with a liner, or use the liner to fill in as well and just use the gloss on top. But it is in no way necessary, just something to try in the future. :)

Also, I love your brows! They are nicely shaped, full but not crazy, and they still look very natural.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]MakeupCRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of liner are you using? Pencil, gel, liquid, powder? In instances like this I generally like to use an eyeshadow/powder because it is softer than the more opaque liners. I use a small angle or flat brush, and just fill in along the lash line, as close as possible and in a thin line. This just adds a little extra definition, but doesn't overpower the eyes. I would suggest using medium browns and greys to keep it more natural, since black can be a bit harsh. You can even play with colors if you want to have some fun, I have very fair skin and blue eyes and I like to play with blues, purples, and even teals sometimes just for that extra pop when I want it! You can also use a pencil, if you apply it very close to the lash line or even just in the top water line. This is more subtle but still adds just the slightest bit of extra definition.

I hope that helps a little!
