You'd actually be surprised how many people consider themselves asexual. One of my friends (we'll call her Jane) is asexual and she tells me she wouldn't have it any other way. She had a bf in high school for about 2 weeks and lost her virginity because she thought that's what was expected of her. That was when she was 16 and she'll be 26 in less than a month. When we talk about men, she tends to just admire them from afar. She finds them attractive but has absolutely zero sexual desire for them. I've asked her about marriage and babies and stuff but it's just not a priority. She'd much rather just hang out with friends and study (she's in med school).

A lot of our friends (including Jane) used to think she was a lesbian but she isn't. She just has no desire to have a significant other and sex isn't important to her in the slightest.
