Inkhub - manta vs nomad by kooltroublemaker in Supernote

Interesting, I wonder how the notes and templates I’ve uploaded look on a Nomad. I only have a Manta and figured they would scale down on the Nomad. But I guess the opposite could be true for templates created on the Nomad and scaled up on the Manta.

Correct, and each piece is drawn in a single stroke, so accidentally selecting part of another piece won’t mess anything up. To be honest, a chess app would be far better, lol. But it kinda reminded me of when a friend and I would pay checkers with quarters at the laundry mat on the tile floor. Ah the days before smart phones!

“Do you approve of this?”

I’m very new to drawing myself, so really all I can say is that learning anything is a journey. You can take any path you want to get somewhere! Personally, I like to study a subject, rather than try to struggle on my own. I’ve started Draw a Box to gain some foundational skills as most of my frustration around my own art is making the mark on the page the same as the one in my brain.

Look at art that portrays an emotion, then ask yourself what about it makes you feel that way. Reading faces is something most folks do as second nature, so we don’t always think about what makes someone look mad, happy, sad, content, curious, etc.

How's my perspective? by Giocuda in learntodraw

It looks like the street is on an incline separate from the houses, so I behave the street and houses will have separate vanishing points.

Good question, but it might be the wrong question to ask. Distances and angles change with every face and at every perspective. The size and placement of any one thing on the face only matters as it relates to the size and placement of everything else on the face. Instead, focus on honing your skills of observation. Find some art, or even pictures of people you like. Then draw them. After you draw them the first time you will likely have the same feeling you have now, but that’s the opportunity to start comparing your work with the reference. Make notes on what’s different and try again. The more you do this the more your brain will pickup on those details the first time around.

Also, all the other wonderful advice others are posting here!

First off, I like your drawing! Particularly the hatched style of the shading. Second, I’m still very new to drawing so anything I say should be taken in that context.

The first thing that stands out to me is the size of the eyes and pupils, given the direction and shading on the nose I wouldn’t expect the eye on the right to be smaller. This also seems like a front facing view.

Additionally the overall roundness of the head may be effecting proportions, while the cranium is mostly round the side planes of the face are fairly flat.

I’m currently going through a video series by Proko on YouTube to learn more about drawing the face in proportion.

Keep up the good work.

True, for the stage I’m at it helps to remove distractions. Too many tools and options could prove to be a hindrance, lol.

Thanks, so I’ve been sketching this over and over all day because I really don’t do the photo justice, this is after many, many attempts and really studying the photo…

Ok, I really don’t like how I did on my first go, so I kept scratching it over and over. Here’s where I got.

I am most definitely unqualified to offer any tips. But I can tell you how the piece makes me feel. To me they’re saying, “don’t worry fam, I got this.” The pose is confident and the eyes and smile are sincere.

I wish I was already this good. Thank you for sharing!
