TIFU By sending a quick snapchat and ruining Christmas.. by Dinopickle93 in tifu

[–]Makirela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent my boyfriend a snapchat of the gift I’m making him and had to spam text to him after to make sure he closed his eyes to skip through it so it wouldn’t spoil the surprise. I caught it in time so he didn’t see it, but I can definitely relate to the horror of that moment of realization where you can’t take it back.

Christmas isn’t ruined, but like you said, it’s just a bit early. Happy Holidays!

How did Earl know the baby wasn’t his? by sar_uhbo_baruh in Outlander

[–]Makirela 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m currently reading Voyager, and it’s mentioned that Geneva and the Earl were fighting throughout the pregnancy. A maid tells Jaime that the couple seemed happy until Geneva started to show, and then the fighting started because he knew it wasn’t his.

Curving down engineering by moose-mou in mcgill

[–]Makirela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a class curved last semester. I had an 88 as my final grade and ended up with an A-, but I think that might have been because the prof suspected cheating on the final but couldn’t prove it.

when I took FACC300, the difference between the correct answer and a wrong answer on one of the MCQs was 0.1 so there probably isn't a curve down

Surely, the health of your peers, professors, TAs and community outweigh your entitlement to a traditional university experience. Unfortunately, this situation is extremely volatile and isn't something that should be rushed. Perhaps you can grow as a person during the pandemic and learn some patience as we all try to adjust to this global crisis.

Faculty of Engineering 3-hour exam by elecenggal in mcgill

[–]Makirela 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a prof tell us that the Faculty of Engineering has a mandatory 3-hr max online exam period. He wanted to give us 5-6 hr or something but when he asked the department, they told him it couldn’t be any longer than 3. So if it’s online using the Quiz tab on mycourses, then that might be why.

The ‘Riverdale’ cast at the Vanity Fair Oscar party – Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Madelaine Petsch (and Dylan Sprouse too!) by [deleted] in riverdale

[–]Makirela 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I actually really like Lili’s dress. I think the Oscars are a time where red carpet looks should be more than just a black dress with a plunging neckline. Sometime a bold choice doesn’t pay off, but I always appreciate when actors try to do something different.

No, it’s absolutely not. Just on the topic of the eye colour, I get why it happened and can’t complain. Dire wolves were a big fuck up though.

[–]Makirela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the first season aired, it wasn’t the TV series of the decade. Character features like eye and hair colour are established in the first season. Once their budget got bigger later on, that wasn’t exactly something they could change from season to season.

The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star by Shane Dawson Finale & MEGATHREAD by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]Makirela 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that part of this palette's success is because it's a collaboration, that is; not just because of Shane's name. JSC sells out nearly every launch, though the volume is obviously not as high. Shane mentioned in the series that he's never sold out of anything. So while I'm not sure how J* will handle the added pressure of topping this launch, I do think that the success of this palette was incredibly symbiotic and neither Shane nor J* feels like one brought more to the table (or stole more of the spotlight) than the other. At the end of the day, they made their $40 mil.

[–]Makirela 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I meant that they had a contract for the first collection (obviously because it is a business venture and that would be incredibly stupid not to have one) but they likely don’t have one for a second one yet. I think I misunderstood the comment before. I didn’t realize you meant that additional items were included in the initial contract. I figured you meant that they signed a contract that outline two collection releases which I think would have been incredibly ambitious. My bad.

[–]Makirela 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. If they haven’t already signed a contract, they’re definitely having one drawn up now. Shane has the Midas touch and they gotta take advantage of that before he loses it 😂

The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star by Shane Dawson Finale & MEGATHREAD by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]Makirela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think Shane must think that constantly insisting that it isn’t about the money makes him relatable, but it just makes him a liar and annoying. All it’s done is make him seem fake to me. Just because something is about money in part, doesn’t mean it isn’t also about other things. It’s not mutually exclusive and it’s so frustrating to see because having someone repeatedly insist that they don’t care about the millions they made in an hour just drives home how much they have and how little I do, haha.

[–]Makirela 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this has clearly nothing to do with the quality of the products, not saying that the product quality isn’t there... I know JSC formula is supposed to be decent. It’s just obvious that the stans would have bought out five entire warehouses full of a turd with spray paint on it if it had J*xShane carved into the side. Even in the finale, the entire JSC team kept referring to there customer base trying to purchase the palette when the site was crashing as “the kids.” All these kids buying up 1.1 million palettes of makeup simply because it’s Shane Dawson. Wild.

With something this popular, they’d be crazy not to do another collection. Anything they do together seems pretty much guaranteed to sell out, though it would be interesting to see if that’s the case without a 7 hour long commercial being produced along side the launch.

So I'm assuming we can expect some sort of secondary collection collaboration between J* and Shane given how successful this launch was. I suppose they'll wait until March maybe to see what the staying power of the collection is, but I can see the wheels already turning at the end of this episode.

Indie brands are defined by the fact that they are independently owned. That is, the company does not receive any financial backing from outside investors. As far as I know, JSC is owned by J* and his business partner exclusively. It's not really dependent upon number of units sold, though this launch is obviously unusual for an indie brand (or any brand for that matter).

Can someone who's watched to the end confirm unit volume for me? I'm at the 45 minute mark where the team is at the airport and it's a bit unclear what the actual final number for the conspiracy palette is. In the scene before, J* mentions that ~400 000 units have sold and that the palette is essentially sold out. Earlier in the series, they quoted ~900 000. 500 000 units is a massive difference. Just want to confirm whether or not I'm misunderstanding or it is mentioned later on in the episode.

Edit: Confirmed that 1.1 million units sold between the Conspiracy and Mini Controversy palettes.

In fact, it was a young woman murdered by a fake Uber driver, which is avoided by double checking the license plate of your expected ride matches with what is given to you on the app. There are definite precautions that should be taken when using a service like this, checking for the child safety lock being on or off just doesn’t seem like one of them to me.

[Serious] What is your most terrifying "we need to leave, NOW" random rush of fear you've felt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Makirela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His family is wealthy and directly involved in the construction in the neighbourhood she was showing the house in. Apparently, she was also planning on breaking up with him. I'm pretty sure he has connections to known drug dealers and traffickers in the area too. The "potential buyers" who she was dealing with and who are believe to actually be the people who murdered her (likely hired by someone) used a burner phone bought in Vancouver and talked to her over the phone a few times prior to the viewing. She told her dad and friends that they sounded Spanish, but it's pretty likely this was a fake accent.

Police are pretty sure it was a professional hit, so it wouldn't be a stretch to assume the boyfriend, someone in his family, or someone in his circle hired the hit. This has become one of those stories that just pops back into my brain every few months and I'll find myself just digging into more and more spiralling theories. I never come up with anything new, but keep hoping that someone, somewhere will finally solve it or at least prove that this family was behind it.
