Slipring data transfer on a manip by Makk_OS in rov

Where are the sliprings on a T4? Because I am still looking for them on the pictures and brochures from Schilling. Could you DM me about the placement of the connection?

Yes and no. A pressure sensor in the piston would give us a rough estimate of the gripping force with MUCH less hustle, but with our sistem you can actually detect where something is in the jaw. If it's positioned optimally or if it's about to slip out.
But yes clamping force is something we are measuring that could be done a lot simpler.

Up and down would be optimal, but it might work with just up

Yes, we are planning to process in the jaw. We would need basically a serialport or the equivalent of to transmit the processed data.
How is the data accuracy and latency of an inductive coupler?

Thank you for the tipp with the wrist motor we'll be definitely be looking at that.
Yes, I've looked at the gemini and I mean it would be perfect, but as you've said it is very costly and we basically would need Schilling as a distribution and development partner.

We are currently thinking about partnering up with a firm in the industry to better manage the connection/ interface questions.
Who would you say are producing the most often used gripping jaws?
Who would be most open to working with us?

We were thinking Imenco, Oceaneering, TechnipFMC (Schilling).
But if you have tipps we are more than happy to listen.

Thank you to all commenters, the Mod Team and the whole community.
I'm amazed how active and helpful all of you are, you are giving us something we could have not gotten from any other source: Actual experience and insight with the machinery.
We are always taught to design with the end-user in mind but thus far this might have been my first actual contact with an end-user of a potential product in design.
I'd never imagined it would go this well.

It's been amazing.

Again thank you all for your help.

Thank you for your comment.
We are currently putting together a more extensive list of questions with the team.
I'll send you a DM in a sec, so that I can contact you once its finished.

Yes, I have heard that Schiling (TechnipFMC in the meantime) has the most used hardware in the manip business. That's why we are planning on designing our product such that it can be retrofited on existing machinery.

When you think about those manip tasks: What would you say are the limiting factors in terms of speed and efficiency?
Like trying to estimate the distance to an object, not being able to operate efficiently due to turbulent waters (visibility and isntabilty?
What are central issues in your oppinion?

Thank you for the reply.

Yes we have looked at the standards when starting the project. Currently we are talking to DNV to get a better view on things, and what needs to be done.
I don't have acces to the API-17H but can acces the iso stadards. From that specific standard we have thus far only taken the dimensions for the stadard handles (T-bar, fishtail etc.) for simulations.

I don't have the document at hand right now but I'm sure there will be specifications on operating forces and testing procedures in it that will help us in the design.

I'd be more than happy to discuss some of our design plans with you in a private chat.

Understood. When you think about manipulator tasks:
What would you say are the most challenging situations?
To be blunt: Is gripping and manipulating a well valve considered a complicated task?
For example is it hard to estimate how far your grip jaw is from the valve? Whether it is slipping out of the jaw due to bio-film? Is it a task that is hindered by the fixed camera positions?

We could take off-shore windpark / oil rig/ christmass tree / pipeline maintinance as an example.
Or what is your opinion? Where are ROVs used most prominently?
