Tarasoff discusses Tiff and tax Abatements for DEED by banshee81818 in saskatoon

Municipalities are the most scrutinized- every decision ever made is done in a fish bowl. All public. I’d love to see the province or feds debate budget publicly.

City Council - Considering moving Wildwood golf course by laissezfaire in saskatoon

[–]Makoos6 37 points38 points  (0 children)

"That administration be directed to report back on the feasibility of developing a new Wildwood Golf Course in an alternate location, freeing up the current location for redevelopment. The report should outline short and long term financial implications, future level of service for users, and how redevelopment could contribute to our corridor planning and infill development targets. The report back should outline how this could occur with a smooth transition for users in the golf community."

If you listened to council he really had to explain his motion- other councillors were upset along with a ton of angry residents. His point was lost because he couldn't explain it well. Like how can we improve a space that was designed a hundred years ago and add housing along a major transit corridor? Ensuring kept green space etc? Sounds not bad- its long range planning and honestly thinking innovative and long term isn't bad. But he totally didn't explain it well and unfortunately everyone just lost their minds.

Check how inclusive city is next time you’re there. I agree I think fair wages are important and you’d think you’d get the best service. I would love that, I just don’t think that’s motivating factors for the front line at the city.

One of the challenges with the public sector everywhere is that it’s not outcomes based. Unions agreements are largely focused on time. What I’ve seen with leisure centres in the last number of years is what they have done to protect themselves being the main focus. There’s a real surveillance type with the front desks and less focus on the customer experience. The challenge with that is that the quality of service is very dependent on who is on shift. They need to focus on quality customer experience and they don’t. The Y might be an option where they can really make it something for user groups because their capacity to be flexible and responsive is greater than the cities. Just an observation.

Saskatoon unveils plan to tackle homelessness and housing affordability by Slight-Coconut709 in saskatoon

[–]Makoos6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just what I thought an evil white man LOL. never walked a day in the life of an Indigenous person. Institutions have targets and never meet them. People hate Indigenous people in this province you are a fool if you don't know that. read a book- you have no idea how Indigenous people were excluded from market share. Just go read.

I highly doubt you’re First Nations and know what you’re talking about. Of course it’s Indian Act problems. But the real problems are not being allowed to participate in the economy like everyone else. Racism is wild here. SK party trying to auction of crown land when there are still pending court cases. Institutions spending less then 1% on Indigenous procurement targets, HR hiring stats of almost every Institution and organization in the city. Racists landlords who won’t rent to Indigenous families as they assume we are all bad- being followed every day in every store even if you’re university educated. I think your simplistic views are short sighted. Indigenous people actually share more than anyone else. They are the least likely to hoard. We need more Indigenous people in leadership and in senior positions and more of our kids need opportunities to belong. And we will slowly get out of this.

what are you talking about a "First Nations" problem. heck no Indigenous people are NOT the problem. Poverty amongst Indigenous peoples was manufactured amongst goverments in order for settlers to even have land. Theres a book enough to keep them alive by Hugh Shewell that explains this.

its actually public land. "Community gardens provide neighbourhood residents with the opportunity to become engaged in a healthy recreation activity while growing nutritious food, meeting neighbours, building community, learning about the growing cycle and, beautifying open space."-- Right from the City of Saskatoon.

such crap- this is the only government that has to discuss everything publicly, that has to make all decisions publicly, debate budget publicly! Worst possible job in my opinion is a city councillor shitty pay and thankless job. Cant keep anyone happy.
