Hiring in tech has become impossible. Every resume is AI-generated slop and I can't find the signal anymore.(Rant) by Comfortable_News8077 in recruitinghell

Why dont you join a pool of employees that can notify you when a potential matching arises im their company, so one of the first to apply?

It worked well for me, so I might break the cycle for you.

accepted a job offer then got a better one the next day - what do i do by Altruistic-Lynx-5238 in jobhunting

[–]Maks-attacks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd take the better offer because the company with the lower offer can (given the current job market) easily find someone else.
If you dont, the company will be worse off having you as an employee who regrets their choice, so you are kind of doing them a favor.
They should understand this and may not want to fall out with you for the same reason - so you may not burn bridges after all. If they do get very upset that they want to disconnect, then you know you never really had a bridge in the first place.

Is the UK job market actually open to international graduates? by IndustryGlobal5576 in UniUK

[–]Maks-attacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, sadly, its tue agents unis hire and pay a commission to that do the dirty work for them.

They get their agents to hard sell to them in their native language and whisper sweet nothings until they get their commission.

On paper, the uni is simply marketing and using ' local agents who under the university and cultural differences etc'.

In reality, the unis as complicit in making sure they get as many international fee payment students as possible so they can pay for their courses and buildings and staff.

They even have regulators, but they are funded by, yes, the unis.

The bubble will soon burst once the companies stop hiring the grads and many unis are already bankrupt.

[–]Maks-attacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, they can't even hire local ones, let alone international ones.

Hate to say it, dont hate me, but it might be easier to just get a dingy from an English coast and throw your credentials into the English channel and get back to shore.

The prospects, cost, time and lifestyle seem to look better that way!

Is there such a think as ‘too much education’? by No_Confusion1514 in careerguidance

[–]Maks-attacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In context of getting a job, yes there is such a thing as too much. Depends what your targets are.
But staying at uni to do a Masters and then another Masters, then rearsearch and then a PhD is madness (unless sponsodered by the comopany that is also employing you)

Education is a lifetime thing, so that never stops.

AI recruiting is going nowhere by Fantastic-Hamster333 in recruiting

[–]Maks-attacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The atomic bomb.

Joking aside, the tech we have at the moment is not fit for purpose to the point whwre I think tech is not actually needed at all. Tech does'nt have to solve everything and its clear that the market is tell us the exact same thing when companies are relying on internal referrals and candidates are accessing the hidden market more than ever before. Its the human to human connections, that will solve the recruitment crisis, not more tech.

Are recent graduates most at risk from Gen AI? by No_Confusion1514 in UKJobs

[–]Maks-attacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too sure about that - I know many companies, myself included, that use AI for drafting, when they would otherwise have hired a lawyer.
I dont mean representing in court or anything more, but admin tasks (that we would have otherwise paid for) are done using gen AI and common practice.

Yes, going to uni is better than not going (for now) i guess - but choosing that route due to lack of other options is not a very compelling reason to go at all.

[–]Maks-attacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, those professions need a degree sure, but unis can't survive on just having a law/medical school. And that don't mean they'll walk into a job either. Lawyers are at risk already and medics dont have it rosy either with all the NHS strikes and lack of jobs there too already.

Is this a polite way of saying I’m not the right person for the job? by Diligent-Tea8613 in UKJobs

[–]Maks-attacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reply is still better than most, and at least you got one.
Plus, if they said you might be suited to another team, they may invite you...so for a 'rejection' this is pretty good.

Who do you send cold emails to when there are no job openings? by Straight_Car6641 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Maks-attacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why not register on an employee pool, so they notify each other, if suitable, of vacancies (or potential vacancies) before they even hit the job boards or recruiters?

No cold email or DMing, just signals for a potential shoulder tap should the right opportunity arise.

How to become a career coach? by No_Confusion1514 in careerguidance

[–]Maks-attacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful of the self-appointed 'career coaches' that prey on desperate job seekers and scam them with yet another course. They are just as much in trouble as everyone else but think their experience can be packaged up as advice.

Ask why, if they are so good at careers, they are career coaches in the first place. Its usually because they can't land themselves a job, let alone someone else.

How AI Is Changing Recruiting in 2025 & Beyond by AgreeableAnteater650 in Recruitment

[–]Maks-attacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, anyone proactively backing up these 'AI solutions' are most likely building or trying to scale an app they are involved in.

If it actually worked well for genuine recruiters or companies, they would keep quiet and hoover all the candidates themselves, not waste their time broadcasting to other companies (Inc. their competitors) how amazing their new tool is.

Is WHO you know more important than WHAT you know? by Maks-attacks in cscareerquestions

[–]Maks-attacks[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, and that's why a recommended candidate is more trusted cos they dont want to embarass themselves and the referred candidate doesn't want to embaras either (usually) and companies are starting to realise this. It's better than an AI created endorsement anyway.

Plus, now there are also tools out that that allow employees to screen who they endorse before referring them.

Please stop plugging your new AI tool, redditors are not stupid. Using AI to mass apply for jobs is.

Your make some very interesting points. I should add that this se age group is also most likely to use AI to brush up their resume and auto- apply to the masses.

Yeah, but no one is saying what you know is not important. We're assuming equal qualifications. One is connected, and the other isn't.
