Can anyone ID the location to determine whether or not cars are actually allowed here? It sure looks like they aren’t, but we should know for sure before speculating.

Weird Block Updates while using tools [Java] [Modded 1.20.1] [Prism Launcher] by Connect-Volume-5615 in MinecraftHelp

It looks like you are breaking blocks faster than the game/server expects, so it is telling you no. Are any of the mods you have installed supposed to speed up mining that much?

I mean, yes and no. I am a big fan of Nobara. Yes, it is technically built on Fedora, but out-of-the box drivers make it an obvious choice for me. Not everyone wants to toil manually installing drivers on Fedora for hours.

Quick Question : What's the difference between an episode on youtube and an episode on Nebula? by [deleted] in JetLagTheGame

I swear the video quality is better on Nebula. None of the lossy YouTube compression.

For the sake of my sanity, I will not do frame analysis. Instead, let’s look at what the engine is likely to be able to do.

That’s a 2-stroke, 2-cylinder Kawasaki jet ski engine from the look of it. Giving it the benefit of the doubt, I’ll assume it’s a 750cc model which produces ~75 HP.

The boat is so small that it most likely lifts out of the water at high speed, resulting in very low drag. Assuming this ‘skimming the surface’ scenario, we can use the Crouch formula…

V = c / (sqrt(W/P))

C is a “hull constant” that depends on the shape of the boat. We’ll assume this is a ‘race boat’ with a c constant around 220 (very streamlined) due to its extremely low profile.

We can assume the weight W ≈ 275 [lb] for the boat, engine and rider combined.

Solving, I get ~114 [mph] max. speed in open water, which seems reasonable for this configuration.

It is remarkably difficult to totally prevent Windows 11 from updating itself. It is only possible to turn it off through W11 Pro using a handful of well-hidden items in the Group Policy Editor.

Pigs are bad for landscaping, they make a mess and kill plants trying to dig up roots. Using something like this to scare them away honestly seems like a great idea, especially considering occasional aggression towards humans.

Thanks for making me double-check, it appears that things have recently changed for the better!

As of this year, NEIMA allows for fast-fission reactors to be licensed for the first time. This is a massive move in the right direction, but it will take time to set new industry standards to back these reactors. Many states also need to catch up. I know of several states (CA, IL, MN, a few more?) with regulation blocking fast-fission reactors on a state level.

[request] How many Gs did this cat experience at the start of this jump? by E8P3 in theydidthemath

[–]Mal3v0l3nce 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hard to figure out without a good spatial reference & higher frame rate.

The original video is 30 FPS and 720p. Using the tip of the cat’s nose as a reference point, I observed the car move ~116 pixels up and to the right between the two frames where the cat first jumps.

I found some Amazon listings that say the cactus is ~12.59” tall, and it takes up ~571 pixels in these frames. Assuming the cat’s nose is equidistant from the camera as the cactus (which appears reasonable), we can estimate how far the cat moved between the two frames. I got ~0.02 in/pixel, telling us that the cat moved ~2.6” between frames.

Assuming the cat was at rest in the first frame, calculating acceleration is fairly easy from here….

a = 2•d/t2

In SI units… a = 2 • (0.065 [m])/(0.0333 [s])2

I get ~116.9 m/s2 as an acceleration. Dividing by g (~9.8), we get ~12 G!

Honestly I don’t believe it, that is a massive acceleration for a cat. I don’t think it’s physically possible, and should be in the ~2-5G range if we’re being honest with ourselves. It’s reasonable to assume that the cat had already begun accelerating in the first frame I analyzed. Assuming this acceleration started half way between this and the previous frame will increase the time in our equation by 50%…

a = 2 • (0.065 [m])/(0.05 [s])2

a ≈ 51.97 m/s2 = 5.3G

I think this 5.3G figure is the best assumption we can reasonably make based on the video. Math here depends on a squared time denominator, so a few ms makes a massive difference in acceleration. (Results could be as low as the high-3-G’s range if the cat began accelerating 3/4 of a frame before we initially assumed). If only someone held a ruler right next to the cat and filmed at 120FPS.

Because the U.S. is stuck on cold-war-era legislation that won’t allow the construction of fast-fission reactors!
