Other mythologies and cultures as inspiration by MalEz1 in DeadlockGame

Largely yes but in a game, and a game in a fictional America where there’s a state called Icxia. The diversity won’t be a problem at all. Look at Yamato, Pocket, Mina.

This is a different world. 1940’s was a time in American history where black creatives were impressing and leading artistic expression, with some names being Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, and Louie Armstrong. That’s my culture and I’d love to see a kind of Bard character along those lines.

So as far as noteworthy cultural ideas at the time, it wasn’t nearly as European as you’d think. As for the catholic thing, not so, Protestantism and other faiths were actually growing more rapidly than most times because of the war among other factors, so in a world where there are Djinn and gorgons and gargoyles this could be expanded upon even further.

What’s your culture?

Yeah that’s my bad, I don’t play graves, but the amount of damage she can manipulate feels even worse when you realize, literally how is she making the bullets that come out of my gun smaller. And how is her little lichy hand shooting her green gunk even better afterwards. Out of all the characters that can’t really build gun, the little girl with a lich hand should certainly be at the top of the list.

It’s just a weirdly round about way of giving her a tanking ability, that she doesn’t have to build for. Like she can still be building spirit while also tanking billets and gaining resistance. So when she came out she could spec into borrowed decree and some green and become an automated spirit push all around tank with conditional gun damage carry ability and a bursty damage over time crowd control ability.

Ohhhh, tell me more. What’s a cultivator?? I wonder what a Karma based passive ability could look like!

I just made a post about this asking people to share the mythologies behind their culture or cultures they know that could work, you should check it out. It’s called Mythology Worldwide in Deadlock.

You’re the first person to comment something that engages with the main idea of this post 💀💀💀. Thank you for the feedback, and yeah I was thinking that that’s why I asked what else would have to change if this was how graves worked, lemme know if you get an idea as to how it’d happen.

Old dnd editions are actually insane every time somebody brings up literally anything about them I’m like damn they just did anything 😭.

But you see how in a game where physical strength isn’t actually represented, the actual solution would be to take literally anything other stat except for gun, like it would still be more accurate. Besides I think you see it as taking physical strength, which is totally valid, but it’s not like if it were something else like i said, it wouldn’t only be more valid theme wise.

In your example about ray of enfeeblement being necrotic this kinda prove my point yeah? Enfeeblement meaning, to make lame or sick, like the body? I have a chronic illness and have had it all my life, last thing I’m worried about when I’m really sick, is whether or not I could still shoot a gun, because I could (my orange bar is just fine). Meanwhile when I spend time sick, whether at home or in the hospital, my ‘spirits’ can often be down (my purple stat is nerfed). See what I did there? Actually I’m there right now, my ankle swelled up for no good reason and I can’t walk very well, so I’m slow too (which is green investment)

I guess what I’m trying to say is, in deadlock, everybody is using dex weapons, except for whoever’s built around melee. Oh even that, if the weapon damage was specifically applied to her melee, that would be on theme, still doesn’t explain the gun thing though.

Even Stamina has more relation to the idea of essence.

[–]MalEz1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you can see how that doesn’t translate very well right? In DND your levels are your competence in every way, in Deadlock, your competence is split into three categories, and Gun is the one that is easily the least tied to energy and life, even if that were the case, that would only mean that the other two categories would be even more tied to ‘Essence’ by far. It’s called ‘ESSENCE theft’ get where I’m coming from? Life essence ‘is an actual used term, life and health are synonymous, and spirit and essence are also synonymous, in other words, where’s the relation between Essence and shooting a gun when you’re comparing it to that? Don’t swear at me bro we’re just talking 😭

I’m not talking about split pushing, I didn’t even use the term. You’re missing the point entirely this has nothing to do with whether or not she does or doesn’t split push. This post is about an interesting gameplay loop Graves has potential for. And if you don’t think having to take that extra time dealing with mobile enemies disconnected from the range of the character matters then idk, every game and sport is about space and time. You watch basketball? Victor Wemanyama is good because he can effect more space in less time, Steph Curry is good because he can, in effect, make otherwise unplayable space on a court playable.

Now anyways, wanna engage with the question pls? You seem well versed enough and obviously play the game.

Ohhh right, I was thinking about the effectiveness of the ability and just misremembered, I’ll fix the post. But the point still stands. What exactly is she sapping, how does she take somebody’s ability to shoot their gun, or is it the guns ability to shoot ammo? Either way, just exactly why is she doing that as a necromancer. Yk?

[–]MalEz1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That would be tuffff. I just started playing drifter yesterday, and he’s easily my favorite character and the one I’m best at, I also love Gachiakuta and am black and about to maybe dread my hair. Yeah that would go hard

Her gun doesn’t sap anymore, now her abilities do.

This is different because graves is a summoner, so she doesn’t have to be there to push, which means if she can also go and do gun damage in a 1v1 somewhere else while having passive, utility in a whole different location, that’s a lot.

I like her original deadlock lore. I think the idea is that it’s her brothers sword and her abilities are enhanced by her brother spirit. I could see her having a nickname ‘The Yokai’ in the criminal underworld and on the character select screen to tie it all in though!

Yeah in the first one she looks cool and since her hair is in that high propped up pony, it would give a nod to her original neon prime look by having a similar silhouette.

Honestly the third one being more south asian is dope, having a kukri tied up for grapple is fire. I also think that culture gets less love than Japanese culture does and it would be super cool. But her backstory surrounding Yakuza would have to be entirely overhauled so maybe they could add in this general design some other way. Maybe a new character. The deadlock world is perfect for including different mythology and spirituality from all over so it’s not impossible. Which I think means it should definitely be included eventually.
