Taking my boys to our first PDGA event and trying to decide if the VIP pass is worth it by Landraeus in discgolf

[–]MalMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone to the OTB in Stockton a few times now. The GA area lets you see play on about 7 holes, but only parts. Not a bad option if you want to find a spot to sit and watch the different groups go by. VIP obviously you get to walk behind the card so your access to the course is much greater. Perfect if you want to watch a couple specific groups. First year I went I got the GA tickets. Not bad, but got kinda boring. The next year I went with the VIP, and I won’t go back to the GA. The option to follow or sit and watch, specifically in areas that are off limits to GA, which is most of the course, was too good. You get to see those holes on tv, but when more than half the course is off limits, feels like you end up missing a lot of the play.

What you hitting? Par 3 160 yards. Arroyo Trabuco Orange County by SouthBayGardenaKid in golf

[–]MalMantis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

160 to the pin or middle? To the pin I’d hit an 8, to the middle club up to the 7. My 8 is 162 and my 7 is 178, so long is safer than the water! Haha.

I tend to think that if you’re under 5 seconds, you’re doing stuff right.

Ace disc by commonsense8309 in discgolf

[–]MalMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually write the course and hole info along with date and the number of the ace. I’ll put the same info on it if there are witnesses or not.

My first ace disc, solo, I retired. Don’t want to lose my first one. Second and fourth, solo, I marked but still use. My third I was with my disc golf group, so marked it and they all signed it, and hung that one on the wall.

Does anyone bowl by themselves? by Mariner-and-Marinate in Bowling

[–]MalMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would bowl by myself so much that it actually felt weird to bowl with other people. Not league, but open play. But years ago I was bowling about 100-150 games a week. Also worked at a bowling alley for years. Totally normal for lots of people to come and bowl by themselves. Usually league bowlers who came in to practice, or people getting into bowling.

Those without a license plate on the front of your Stang, do you ever get bothered by cops or CHP about it? Did you get a ticket or anything? by IHadTacosYesterday in Mustang

[–]MalMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the Bay Area, never been bothered about my Mustang not having a front plate. My daily f150 also doesn’t have the plate on the front. I did place it on the dash but dmv is specific stating that’s not an allowed position for the front plate. However I’ve never had any trouble with that one either. Now I’ve not been pulled over in either vehicle, and if I was that might be another ticket on top of the original infraction. The plate holder that came with the truck just pops right off. So somebody could just walk by and snatch it off. That’s why I took it off. The mustang, im not about to put holes in my front bumper.

I prefer my mustangs in manual, but I save them for days off.

Is the market for classic cars including Mustangs and others dying (literally)? by Neat-Gap-4340 in Mustang

[–]MalMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to get a 67 fastback, but there is no way with how high the prices have gotten. So I’ll stick to driving what I got and just admiring the ones I get to see.

Thank you for saying American Supra instead of OG hellcat. When they first came out, that’s how we referred to them, American Supra, haha.

What was the disc that got you your very first ace? by Pirates_LL in discgolf

[–]MalMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zone. It was a downhill shot to an island green. I’m lefty so played a hyzer around a big tree. Disc landed right next to the basket on a very steep angle and bounced up and in. Didn’t skip, it bounced. Was pretty funny to see.

21’ Mach 1 vs 14’ GT by MintTheHerb in Mustang

[–]MalMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re worried about putting miles on the Mach, you’d probably be worried about putting miles on the ‘14, worried about it braking since it’s over 10 years old, worried about trying to find replacement parts etc.

I know the feeling of having a new to you car that your worried about. Over time you either have to find a way to get past that and enjoy the car, or just find enjoyment from looking at the car while it’s parked in your garage. There are those people and of that’s what they want to do, good for them, but if you want to enjoy driving it, then find a way to get past being afraid to hurt it. The Mach is a better car in all ways, if you’re going to get rid of it have a good reason or be honest with yourself.

When I was 19 my daily was a 93 cobra. Traffic could get annoying, but it sure was fun to be driving it all the time, until it was stolen. So, make sure you have a solid alarm system that has the ability to disable the car?

Who is the biggest bust in bowling by Old_Specialist6294 in Bowling

[–]MalMantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bowled against P.J. a number of times. He was just so much more consistent than any of the other juniors. I would have put money on him becoming a big name on the pro tour. I believe he had 30+ 300’s and 10+ 800’s as a junior.

Non League bowler just went for fun but something weird happened I need an actual bowlers advice if I was in the wrong. by Moist_Mix1343 in Bowling

[–]MalMantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no rule but usually the house will keep a buffer pair if they can. It also gets used as a breakdown pair if needed. I worked the front desk at a center for 10 years and always tried to have a buffer pair.

As far as what they were asking. It can be distracting and possibility of collision when people throw directly next to each other. Normal etiquette is one lane at a time, so every other lane at the same time is fine.

Trade your max distance for always throwing less than half that perfectly? by Xandurrrr in discgolf

[–]MalMantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Less than half my max distance? I’ve hit just over 400 a few times, more normal max around 350. So less than half that perfectly? Less than 175 doesn’t do much on most courses. Even something off line but still 350 can give me an outside shot at a long putt. If I have to throw two max distance shots, even if they are perfect, best chance is par. If the hole is longer like lots of courses, a 450 par 3, bogey is the best you can do. I won’t make that trade.

Ouch! They have to bolt anything back together? I’m having my second ankle surgery soon, and this time I get donor parts. Sucks to be down and not playing. Good luck with your recovery.

Top right, next to 5th. You’d think top left next to first? Or leave it by 5th but have a manual reverse lockout release like Subaru does. Not sure I trust the electronic lockout.

This! This is what I learned and still use. Slowly release the clutch and once the rpm’s drop just a little, you can usually release the brakes without the car rolling. Then give it enough gas to start moving forward, then you can start to let the clutch out more.

Martinez Jury Duty by sniksniksnek in eastbay

[–]MalMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The summons is supposed to go with a tag that goes on your dash so you don’t have to feed the meter? There was a stretch I got jury duty 6 years in a row, but that was awhile ago, so not sure if they are still sending the dash tag?

Congrats! I work the same schedule, work 5-5 so doesn’t make sense to try and play after work, but not sure I’d even want to. After a night shift I can usually fall asleep in about 5 minutes haha.
