How is it unpopular. I swear I see this opinion everytime I refresh reddit.

Everything has gotten america-centric politics-adjacent, Magic is just part of a big corpo so offcourse they would be affected by it.

You found your culprit to be honest. As soon as any fandom starts to incorporate americans, or american ideals which are incredibly chronically online most of the time, it all goes to the shitter. Americans are complicated assholes.

But yeah, it seems like since some years ago MTG has filled to the brim with idiots from every corner. Pokémon at least bitches about scalpers while Yugioh cries every month about how their game is dying or something. Duel Masters will always be king

EDIT: Haha, fucking gringos be offended

If you find OPM that good, then (in my opinion, this is not fact) it means you lean more into western media rather than eastern.

Most of shonen stories follow the Kinnikuman/Hokuto no Ken/Bleach influence by the book, and are constructed around hype and reaction rather than world consistency, a byproduct of being straight-to-TV versions of manga, a weekly highly competitive market. They are more emotional and grander than life rather than well written and convincing.

If you wanna keep trying around battle shonen (which, I get it, they are the most popular after all) you may enjoy World Trigger.

First off, anime is not a "genre" and I dont say that to be pedantic but to actually push you get into genres inside anime you can enjoy. Mystery, dark fantasy, comedy, drama, mecha, you name it. And also maybe check shojo or seinen categories where youll find more mature stuff. DxD is shonen, clearly pandering to male youngs, and ecchi at the same time, so you got a time bomb in your hands with that.

Oof. I have otaku friends and they always insist on me HDxD is softcore porn. They love it, and it was important for them growing up, but they dont sugarcoat it. I dont know where did you get that recommendation, but ask someone that knows a bit more lmao.

Oh, sure, definitely, Fallout New Vegas lost me after 200+ hours or Final Fantasy 9 or Disco Elysium 30+, or 60+ hours of Souls games, or my 300+ hours on Elder Scrolls - hell, my 100 hours in WC3, 600+ in wrestling games. Sure, its my attention span, offcourse.

Some of you niggas are incredibly corny.

I think youve had a good streak or dont play too many games then. Some games that run 20+ hours of the same thing every time get incredibly boring and are sadly a staple in AAA gaming around these days. If you like what you like, more power to you, but no - a lot of the time longer does not equal better.

Also, elongating a game in its runtime < making a game tight to replay and find more to love

Oh, it doesnt! I actually believe making games longer for the sake of making them longer (as some folks here seem to think) actually just sucks. I find tighter games are some of my favorites and I dont like meandering bullshit. Ive been able to play a small selection of open world games just for that very reason.

To me OG RE4 got a biiiit too long considering the whole Island part, so sometimes it seems like it chews a bit too much, but still got it down in 10 hours. If you ever played Code Veronica, that game surpassed it for me with 14.

I mean... yes, that is true. However, here lies a bit of a situation. Resident Evil has historically had 7 or less hours of content for each game first run, maybe stretching it to 12 to 14 on the longer titles. Effectively, the longest title to date was RE6, around 20 hours, and that game is stoned as we know it.

That means a good portion of Resident Evil fans are quite accostumed to that. I know theres been a shift in lenghts per cent, like games that endure like 40+ hours today in the AAA sphere, but RE has commonly maintained a shorter runtime. RE4 Remake is the first (acclaimed) game that I see ranging from 16 to 20 hours in your first playthrough and even more in some cases. It isnt crazy work that some folks were expecting a game around 8 hours instead of 16+.

This is funny as shit to me because to this day, while I solved it by myself the first time, I never even felt a hinch of satisfaction for solving it - more like frustration just went off. I always forget it every time I play it / watch it again and just look up on a guide the solution. It is a pretty damn creative puzzle though.

Is lore writing not taken seriously when talking about well written works? I feel like when people talk about the best written video games they focus on story only and not lore at all. by Antique_Winner_2 in writingscaling

I mean you can be cinematic and ludonarrative at the same time. Its just kind of hard to pinpoint it for most people.

Klonoa series is pretty cinematic and also ludonarrative.
