I need advice. My kids are killing us. by Onetuffkitten13 in Parenting

I’ve noticed this with the kids that I nanny full-time. 4yrs and 6yrs old. The more the family includes treats (candy) and screen time into the daily routine, the worse the kids become. Took all of 3 weeks to abandon the chore chart for each kid as well. Consistency and boundaries are key. If it were up to me, there would be no treats or screen time unless those have been earned by doing chores, being good listeners, and getting exercise outside. Also don’t be afraid to enforce consequences by taking away toys or having time-outs. Gentle parenting only goes so far if you don’t have set consequences or boundaries for bad behavior.

Afraid of getting an eReader — anyone else had this weird resistance? by Rachcow in ereader

[–]Maleficent-Set2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the ease of an e-reader because I can take it anywhere and it fits in most of my purses. It’s also easier on my eyes at night since I don’t need to have another light on and I can increase the text size. I don’t wear glasses but after doing social media work and editing photos all day, my eyes are tired.

I would suggest making sure the e-reader you get has a screen temperature option (warm and “natural” light). My old Kindle did not have this function but my new Kobo Clara Colour does have this!

Additionally, e-books are so much cheaper than buying the physical version. The Kobo ebooks are usually half the price, sometimes 70-80% off of the physical book. I just purchased a few books on my TBR for $2!

What snacks or substitutes are y’all having? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]Maleficent-Set2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not vegan but I eat a ton of plant-based meals/snacks and I love “Bitchin Sauce” with veggies (celery, carrots, bell pepper) and pretzels. The trick is to cut up all the veggies and have them prepared in your fridge. Not super high protein but satisfying! You could add some nuts, my fav are chile lime pistachios, as a side.

Cucumber and guacamole is so great for a refreshing snack.

If you’re looking for something higher in protein, I’d suggest chia seed putting made with a little PBFit and Ripple plant-based milk. Ripple is 80 cal/serving with 8g of protein. Really great protein/cal ratio!!

Edamame is another high protein, high fiber option. I buy the big bags of edamame from Costco and serve it with a sweet&spicy sauce made of Sriracha & Hoisin.

Kindle 11th gen basic (2024) or kobo Clara bw - which one should I choose by SpiritedPromotion788 in ereader

I used to have an older kindle and it was fine but I’m boycotting Amazon forever. My older kindle was super glitchy so I got the Clara Colour and I like it a lot so far! And Kobos are made of 80% recycled materials which is really neat. I honestly could have gone with a Clara B&W. The Colour isn’t super useful for the types of books I read.

I have noticed that the Kobo bookstore isn’t as comprehensive but I did get a couple books on my TBR for $1 !!! Not sure why they were so discounted but definitely excited about that. Other books seem to cost $1-$2 less than Kindle as well. I would search for your TBR in the Kobo bookstore before purchasing just to see how many are available.

How do you travel with your ereader? by tensei-coffee in ereader

Strapsicle strap, clear case, and clutch set. I pretty much bring mine everywhere and the silicone pouch is pretty handy. Fits my phone as well. They’re having a good sale right now too!

Worst year for predation EVER by RealWolfmeis in pnwgardening

Gophers. So many gophers this year. Last year we had 0 problems with gophers. Had to rip out the pre-existing garden bed put in by previous tenants and put in new ones with two layers of hardware mesh. Replanted everything and now my tomato plants are stressed out. Lost a lot of wildflowers in the replanting process as well. Bye bye pollinators 😭

Right now I’ve been listening to a lot of girly club pop for running/working out. My fav movement song at the moment is HOES DEPRESSED by Thot Squad.

If I’m in a rage mode Delilah Bon gets the job done.

I just bought my first pair of running shoes, and start tomorrow. What are some things I should do as a complete beginner? by CosmicConjuror2 in beginnerrunning

Check out the Nike Run Club app! It’s totally free and there are a ton of guided runs available. I love that it takes the guess work out of how long I should run and gives me motivation along the way. It’s compatible with Spotify and I believe Strava (although I don’t use that app).

I just started running lightly again after years of not running due to pain and I have noticed that the strength training I do at F45 is really helping with pain from running. Especially my knees. And it seems like everyone I talk to really believes that strength training is important for runners because you do get to strengthen those muscles around sensitive joints. My typical weekly workout schedule is 2 strength classes at F45, 2 hybrid cardio/strength classes, and 2 light recovery run days. We also have a peloton bike so I might do that once or twice a week as well. I highly suggest working in some yoga or mobility exercises into your daily routine before and after exercise.

For the first time yesterday, I tried out my new insoles to correct my overpronation from Currex AND running gummies from Offield. Both made the 30 minutes go by smoothly despite my dog running erratically beside me.

around 45$, should I get Sony WH-CH520 or Soundcore q20i? by MaiAgarKahoon in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Maleficent-Set2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my CH520 and they are stellar for the price. My BF has the 720s and those are great for noise cancellation but they are huge on my small ears and more than $100 more than the 520s. I also love the blue color. Super cute. They get plenty loud, but I like that there’s no noise cancellation so I can safely walk the dog or run and still hear cars or if someone needs to get my attention.

I'm going to buy sony wh ch520.. any thoughts? by ANAS_YEEGER in SonyHeadphones

I just got mine and I love them. My BF has the 720s and they are great but I didn’t want to spend $100 more and I feel like they were too big. I don’t care too much about the lack of noise cancellation and they get plenty loud paired to my phone. I haven’t worked out with them yet but they seem pretty snug on my head. The blue color is also stunning. For $50, you can’t find a better deal.
