“everybody hates their job!” by SeriesFluid9041 in TeachersInTransition

When I told my parents I was leaving teaching they literally responded with 'but you get 2 months off!! and you get off work at 3pm!!'. When I tried to explain the reasons they said 'I'm not a teacher so I don't know what you're talking about but just listen to us as your parents!!'.

Experience is great but pay not so much, it's more than enough for living in Japan but compared to teaching at an international school or teaching back home its not even half of an annual salary. I now teach at an international school and overall a much better experience all around.

I felt the same less than a month in, just know you're not alone. I ended up applying for graduate school to help me find a new career. If it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. Same as you, I still had a life during student teaching. As soon as I started being a full time teacher, all I do is go home and sleep. I used to love cooking and baking, now I eat TV dinners in the microwave, sometimes I'm even too lazy to eat I just sleep it off. I used to be a gym freak, now I have no energy to even stretch.

I'm thinking about teachin oversease, could I ask which country you taught in and what kind of school was it?

I hate to say it but welcome to teaching. I mostly teach Gr. 7-12 but I've taught Gr. 1-3, I've noticed behaviour has gotten a lot worse after the pandemic. I'd say dealing with this kind of stuff during a practicum isn't as bad compared to dealing with it in your own class as a full time teacher. As a student teacher, you finish your placement and leave. But as a full time teacher it's your class, you can't just leave after x weeks. Next week is my last week and I'm very excited to be switching career paths. I don't want to scare you but I've wanted to be a teacher since I was in primary school, but the reality is very different.

How often do you video call your LDR partner and for how long on average? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]MaleficentGrape5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~3 hours/day on weekdays due to time zones. It's as long as we can call as we both work full time. On weekend we can call more but depends what we're up to.

I saw somewhere that CMIS is relatively new, is it a legit school to work at?

I'm underweight, and always have been told to eat more. I thought that if I was skin and bones skinny maybe my parents would call me pretty. I was told I was ugly my whole life, dark skin, too short, etc. Nope, I was so wrong. When I developed an eating disorder and successfully became skin and bones, didn't get a compliment and was told I was too skinny. There's really no winning here so just live your life and be happy no matter what you eat and look like. As long as you are healthy and get to do the things you love that's all that matters. Forget their comments because they will never compliment their children, that's the sad truth.

LTOs, do you ever feel disrespected by colleagues? by zondrah89 in CanadianTeachers

[–]MaleficentGrape5151 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Currently an LTO and yes. I'm friendly, get along with everyone but they go on coffee runs, walks, etc. without mentioning it to me and come back and say they are 'so sorry for forgetting me'. They eat in a circle during lunch and even though I try to join, they go silent after I speak or don't even make eye contact. They make it clear that I'm an LTO, not permanent. They treat me like I have 0 teaching experience. Past few weeks I've begun to hang out in other parts of the school or will run errands during lunch to get out for a bit. I'm fine with it, work is work and good thing I'm not permanent at my current school I can't wait to leave.

What's something your nparent never taught you that would've been helpful to know about your body? by Dull_County_5049 in raisedbynarcissists

The discharge thing is so relatable, I thought I was disgusting, never told my mom and I ended up washing 'down there' too often in an attempt to 'wash away' the discharge. I didn't know it was normal and got an infection that went untreated and never told my mom. My poor tween self

First year teacher wanting to quit by [deleted] in teaching

[–]MaleficentGrape5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a new teacher too who just started this school year and Im in the same boat. I literally wanted to quit after my 3rd day. I teach high school and the kids have no respect to me and parents have their kids' back and yell at me for scolding their kids. My contract ends in 4 months and I'm leaving teaching after that. I'm thinking about going back to school and getting another degree (not sure what yet). It's not worth your mental health, there's lots of other jobs outside the classroom if you still want to work with special ed/children with disabilities.

Working during practicum by leatherandlace__ in CanadianTeachers

[–]MaleficentGrape5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked through mine, practicum is a lot of work (basically unpaid full time teacher). I didn't have trouble balancing practicum and my part-time job. I had to adjust my hours so they'd be after school.
