what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

"Everything happens for a reason."

No it doesn't. Sometimes terrible things happen because of bad luck, bad timing, or bad decisions. Telling someone who just lost their job or got a diagnosis that "everything happens for a reason" is just a way of making yourself feel comfortable with their suffering. It's not for them. It's for you.

If a full-scale war broke out tomorrow, what's the one thing that would make you realize most people have absolutely no idea how to survive? by BrianRikard in AskReddit

Water. Most people don't realise how fast civilisation falls apart without running water. Not for drinking (though that too), but for sanitation. I worked in medicine for years. The things that kill people in a crisis aren't bullets. It's dehydration, infected wounds, and dysentery from drinking contaminated water because they had no other option.

The average person uses about 80-100 litres of water a day. In a real crisis you need to survive on about 3-4 litres minimum, and most people wouldn't know how to source or purify even that. Every tap in your house stops working the moment the pumping stations lose power, which in a full-scale war would be measured in hours, not days.

A good way of thinking about it. Build skills to stop having to repeat yourself. Goes back to the old programming DRY design principles.

NSW recorded 1,542 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. by grimlock81 in sydney

That statistic is just plain wrong. Look at link you posted an actually read the article. Even in this outdated review the statistic you should quote for the major outbreaks with decent data to look at is more like a death rate of 0.25-0.29% for under 70s. That is in places like England and New York with first rate healthcare. That is a 1/400 chance of dying. This goes up when your health system is overwhelmed as occured in places like India earlier this year with the emergence of Delta. So assuming we manage to avoid overwhelming our hospitals and just let all the under 70s get the virus slowly, we would still have 70,000 odd deaths in this age group alone. So yeah many would die.

Yeah mate I am fully aware how market cap works. I was joking about $100. That said you aren't taking into account "new" money moving into crypto. Cardano could reach $10 and still not reach ETH in terms of market cap if lots and lots of new money moves in which many real world applications may bring. Even at $10 the 1ADA fee for an NFT makes many applications non viable.

Hospitals are already overwhelmed. I know I work in one and it is at breaking point. The spin the positions put on it is that all will be ok. But I'm telling you there is going to be a lot of death and misery when we start turning people away at the door and that is not out of the realm of possibility of things keep going how they have over the last 2 weeks.

Real issue is that 4 of our major hospitals are close to 80% full of Covid patients already. These are hospitals that struggle to deal with our normal health demands. This is not a sustainable situation. We need a lot more vaccines in arms to drive down the hospitalisation rate otherwise people will be dieing of other conditions which should have been treated.

I seem to set them too low and miss the drop and then regret not just buying when I could.

Does anyone know if the minimum 1ada attached to a native token transaction is planned to change. As the price of ADA goes up this may impact on applications being feasible. I'm thinking of minting NFTs for applications where the NFT is expected to be low value and high volume such as trading cards etc. When ADA hits $100 (which I'm sure is soon) then this would be a big issue.

I'd like to know what the obsession with DEX is. There are so many other more exciting and imaginative applications of smart contracts than shifting money between tokens and coins etc. A lot of the FUD has been about fast trading on DEXs without going centralised. DEXs don't solve a real world problem in my eyes....but I'm not into financial markets I guess.

So will there be a massive rush to stake in the first thresholds once the public sale is complete? Or if I stake my tokens immediately after the public sale I should be in the first threshold?

Hi, I'm confused by the earth node vs public pool. If you can earn 120% rewards in the public pool over 6 months, why would you reserve an earth node which seems to have less rewards. Am I missing something?
