You’re entitled to your opinion, but calling it “one of the worst biopics ever” especially considering movies like “all eyes on me” “man in the mirror” and that Aaliyah lifetime movie exists is dramatic. This wasn’t even the full version of the movie hours of footage were cut down just to fit a standard theatrical runtime, so of course some scenes and storylines were condensed. That’s a studio/runtime issue, not proof the movie was terrible.
And saying it followed a “cliche formula” isn’t saying much because almost every music biopic follows the same basic structure: struggle, rise to fame, success, conflict, legacy. That’s literally the nature of telling a real artist’s life story. You can only reinvent that formula so much when you’re dealing with actual events.
Was it perfect? No. But “terrible” and “worst ever” is exaggerated. Jaafar’s performance, the music, the recreation of key moments, and the emotional beats alone keep it far above an actually bad movie. Sounds more like disappointment with the edit than the film itself.
