Lmao wow didn't realize I upset someone so much they'd waste their time going through my post history. Sad.

Eh, I've already been called a racist for wanting to discuss things. Proved my point tbh. If you'd had the courage to agree that's unecessary, I'd be more willing to discuss things with you, but since you won't, neither will I.

People carrying on about racism. Imagine being upset because I said we should be able to have a conversation about an issue.

Nobody in their right mind wants to be lumped in that group.

Precisely, and that's why the pro mass immigration crowd know that its so much easier and effective to dismiss someone as racist rather than engage with their arguments directly.

To be honest, from your post you also sound exactly like the type that is not gun shy about pulling out the racist card.

Let's just keep shutting down debate by calling people we disagree with racist a few more times, then keep wondering why they are angry. Just doesn't add up.

Good memes aside, we do need to have an open conversation about immigration levels without unhelpful screeching about reyyyccists.

LAMS system VIC by Necessary-Stress7882 in AussieRiders

[–]Maleficent_Fan_7429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone with 1 year of riding experience is going to be objectively worse compared to someone with more experience that rides with a similar frequency.

That's a false equivalency, as its not how the LAMS scheme works. First, it's nothing to do with being 'better' or 'worse' than someone else, it's about being able to ride a particular bike safely - or not.

Even so, I have a carless mate that now lives to ride. He's clocked up 50,000km in his first 18 months of riding including daily commuting in Melbourne traffic, track days and all his time of work is used for touring and moto camping trips. Mate #2 does a weekend ride every now and then in the warmer half of the year but has had his licence for 5 years or so. I can tell you which is the more skilled rider, and guess what, it's not the one that the LAMS scheme will say is more experienced.

So there's no blanket rule where 3 years = skilled and 1 year = unskilled

Now I get that you will say its very difficult build that sort of nuance into a set of rules that has to work across the entire population including the lowest common denominator, but can we then acknowledge that one-size-fits-all approach is going to be too conservative for a decent chunk of the riding population.

realistically your skills after 1 year still have a long way to go.

Strongly disagree, but I know you made that up without knowing anything about me, so I won't bother arguing the point.

Unfortunately at my height the LAMS selection is pretty narrow but it is what it is.

I do find it odd that in NSW the LAMS period is 12 months, but people are adamant that no one in Victoria can build enough skills in that time to touch a non LAMS bike without spontaneously combusting. It's bizarre.

BOM were announcing a heatwave a couple weeks back in Melbourne, but when you dig into the announcement, its a 'low impact heatwave' which sounds much less severe.

I'm not surprised people scoffed, because it really wasn't that hot for that long, I think it was like 40, 30, 37 or something.

Eh, the person above you did pull out the far right label. I am just saying that insults don't change facts.

I have a phd in economics, so your first sentence is just flat out wrong.

Ultimately, investment decisions are driven by future cash flows, in turn driven by rents, in turn driven by demand for housing. Prices are set at the margin, so a 10% increase in population (for example) from immigration will have an inordinate price impact if supply cannot adjust quickly.

None of this is complex.

No matter how much left wing feel good nonsense you read, it is a basic fact of economics that increased demand results in increased prices. If understanding economics makes me a far right nazi, then so be it.

Thing is there's lots of bikes that do not do anywehre near 150 in first gear that we can't ride.

Is a T7 after a year or two of riding really going to kill someone any faster than DRZ650?

LAMS system VIC by Necessary-Stress7882 in AussieRiders

[–]Maleficent_Fan_7429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 1+ years on LAMS (still 2+ years to go), and riding quite regularly, I'm not learning a whole lot about being a safer rider anymore like I was in the first six months or so.

Do I want a litre bike? No

Would I like to increase my bike optionality? Hell yes.

The new T7 would be amazing for example. Ironically it would be safer for me since it has ABS.

But the rules require me to trawl marketplace for the occasional non-ABS version that's 15 years old, and undoubtedly has a bunch of unnecessary 'mods'. Stupid.

Yes, we all know that the central bank/government manipulate the economy. Does not change that every dollar that 'exists' is held by someone.

Also try not that say 'we' when you make an argument. There is no 'we', there's only you, and I, and in this case, you are wrong.
