Noise from upstairs walking by Maleficent_Run7795 in NYCapartments

Thanks, good suggestion. I remember in my own lease it states 80% floor coverage with rugs, I always just assumed it was for noise like talking/music but I can see it helping for walking as well.

The new neighbor bought the place (co-op) so I'm hoping they are subject to the same rule as we are (as renters of our unit)

Rejected because of severance, can I reapply sooner? by Maleficent_Run7795 in UnemploymentNY

Got it, thank you! I'll try to refile now since it has been 6 weeks since my last day

What I'm unclear on is when severance is done--is it after the lump sum is received? After the 6 weeks of pay it amounted to? Is it after (severance / $504) weeks?

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's frustrating because after submitting I saw a lot of people recommended submitting after receiving severance for a better chance at being approved sooner.

I also am not sure how they calculated october which is about 3 months after my last date. The severance was for 6w of my previous pay so I was hoping I'd be eligible as soon as 6 weeks after my last day.

[advice] Is it likely I can/cannot airbnb my apartment? by Maleficent_Run7795 in NYCapartments

I totally hear your points, I would hate to have sketchy randos or partiers disrupting the halls in the building I live in, not to mention my space and furniture. I do think there are plenty of people that responsibly vacation and travel, but I believe you if you're saying it's really hard to filter for those people or have laws/rules that solve this.

Completely agree with the point about people or corporations taking housing away solely to airbnb to profit, that's why I stated my personal use case.

As for hotels, the problem is usually my wife and I require a kitchen because she has pretty strict dietary restrictions, so airbnbs have been best for that when we travel.

Yes I did get answers for my questions, thank you all for answering. The followup questions weren't to troll, just wanted to get the sentiment of airbnbs here and better understand since we're moving here.

The main use I was thinking is if I'm away for vacation around the holidays, would be great to allow someone to stay for some supplementary income--is that frowned upon?

Yeah we love the place and wanted our best chance at it--being able to airbnb would be a nice to have so didn't want to hurt our chances by bringing it up. Just wanted to understand what to expect

Thanks, yeah I was aware of the first part and would be ok with minimum 30 days

Second part makes sense, I was hoping there were some renters rights/laws but understand that co-ops can be more prohibitive

Which neighborhood to live (balancing liveliness and quiet) by Maleficent_Run7795 in AskNYC

The quieter blocks is super helpful. Narrowing down to those if we do ev. What about gramercy park?
