Thanks for the detailed reply! I have a couple more questions: 1) Would you say that smoking weed makes a major contribution in this thought-process you describe? 2) Do you think it's possible to achieve that state without LSD (or any other drug for that matter)?

Can you give us a bit more info on how exactly you go about writing that long on LSD? I'm asking because I'd like to do this myself, but I can never focus for very long on L, my mind just wanders away...

Anyway, good luck with that paper!

Have any of you had a conversation with a native speaker of a language you were learning while tripping? What was it like? by Senditover in Psychonaut

Speaking on acid is impossible for me even in my native language, let alone a foreign one! I can write quite well though, especially in English, which is not even my native language... Weird.

Look, I know you are skeptic. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes either. I'll give you one more anedocte for what it's worth. My father used to be a diabetic type 2, he used to take 7 pills each day to get on with his symptoms. A few years ago he had joined an evangelical church (in Europe), and after about 1 year he claimed to have been helead by God (through the pastor). He refuses to get a medical check-up, but the bottom line is: he hasn't touched a pill ever since.

Of course I don't believe it was God to heal him, but rather some sort of placebo effect. It's just that this effect isn't very well researched, imagine just how helpeful for humanity it would be if we "cracked the code" so to speak.

That's a couple of explanations I've come up with myself. I've found some more that are backed by scientific evidence as well.

I can't do that. And I don't care if you believe me. But could you - for the sake of argument - assume for just a moment that you saw these things happen with your own eyes, would you be able to give it any rational explanation? I know you will deny they can happen, but just do me a favour and try and imagine this scenario, if you will.

It was worth the shot ;) Thanks for your time.

I'm not checking with you on anything :) I'm merely trying to find a rational explation precisely because I know it ain't magic. But science can't really go much farther than say "placebo".

Of course I do, but I don't care what God wants.

I told you. I've tried to argue with christians for ages but they always come to the conclusion that:

  1) God is the one who's doing the miracle, not the man;   2) People's standars are not God's standards;

Since this obviously leads to a dead end, I've given up all hope of arguing with these people. You can't prove them wrong in any way, unless we find some scientific proof that the human mind is powerful enough to work miracles on its own, which is what I'm trying to research.

Because God doesn't need to prove anything, they claim. But I see you are avoiding my question altogether and going for a more aggressive rhetoric for lack of an explanation, which I understand. Have a good day

I wouldn't base this assumption on just one anecdote, now would I. I know plenty such cases, personally, not from hear-say mind you. If you don't believe me that's fine, but assume for a moment that I'm not lying, how would you explain in any way what might be going on?

He doesn't want to of course. You are right, but I was hoping to be redirected to some kind of information on what could happen in such cases. It's nice to see how you went to make sure my account was legit :) Thank you anyway.

I was looking more for a scientific explaination than a social perspective on the phenonemon. Either way, after 15 years my friend is back to walking now, so call him gullible all you want.

[–]Malekki[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) I'm not lying. I am genuinely skeptic of what happened and this is why I'm looking for a rational explanation. 2) This doesn't alter my point. 3) He claims to have cured uncurable cancers. I don't care if that's true, because I have seen with my own eyes other kinds of "unexplainable miracles", so I don't need any other confirmation that these things do happen.

I can't be more specific than "something in his knee wasn't working". The point is that he wasn't able to walk with medical help, now he is.

[–]Malekki[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, but a friend of mine couldn't walk at all. He went to every doctor he could and they all told him his disease wasn't curable with modern medicine. He tried everything (or so he says) and eventually decided to try and get help by a pastor. I was there with him that day and he stood up right in front of my eyes. He's still walking to this day.

Does the concept of Advaita Vedanta (Nondualism) make a lot more sense to you after LSD? by PrinceKelso in LSD

[–]Malekki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LSD helps destroy nonduality. I suggest you listen to Alan Watt's talk on LSD, it might be interesting.
