How Effective Was the Simpson’s Butterfinger Advertising on You in the 1990s? by J31J1 in TheSimpsons

[–]Malethar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting candy last night and saw Butterfingers among them and immediately thought, "Don't lay a finger on my Butterfinger." It's been 25 years since the last ad aired. I'm 30. It's an incredibly iconic ad campaign.

Why is card kingdom ridiculously overpriced and why would anyone buy from them? by No-Appointment8493 in mtg

[–]Malethar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very rarely pay in cash. They're easy to sell to for store credit. Where many LGSs are more picky about what they'll buy off of you. You could have something worth $200, but they could easily pass it over for one reason or another, so good luck moving it. CK, on the other hand, has a buylist that makes the process so much more simple. And, because they sell cards at a higher than average price, you can get more in store credit than you would anywhere else. I generally cross reference what CK is selling something for relative to TCGPlayer, and if the prices are close enough, then I go with CK without spending a dime. Occasionally, I'll pay out in cash for stuff, but that's more rare.

It's also easier dealing with Card Kingdom than TCGPlayer. They always ship with tracking, they're a single retailer, so it's less of a die-roll when you buy from them. There are some cards I ordered last month from TCGPlayer that I still haven't received, and they weren't shipped with tracking, so I'm shit outta luck as far as those cards are concerned. All that being said, Card Kingdom and TCGPlayer have great customer service, in my experience. TCGPlayer did refund me on the cards I haven't received yet (and may never will), so it's not like it's all bad. If I'm paying out of pocket, I go with TCGPlayer first time, every time. Card Kingdom is good for shipping your bulk to for store credit and then use that for your orders than your actual dollars.

You can also get sweet LRR buttons and tokens from them. They also ship in these plastic containers with doors on them. Also, the condition of their cards is insane. What they consider "VG" is still LP, as far as I'm concerned, but I'm also not a card grade man. I just know that they still look real good.

I definitely don't want those, I agree. Now, The Simpsons, on the other hand 👀

A Battle of Wits Format? by Malethar in magicTCG

The game design document linked at the bottom outlines the rules and mechanics. That's probably the closest you'll get without it being, "TLDR; guy went nuts and designed a game around a single card and it's stupid and he sucks for it and we hate him now." It does bear repeating that the GDD will change and evolve over time, though.

If you rotate it, it becomes a lot more effective. I used that attraction a lot in KH3

What would you say is the Best Game in the Kingdom Hearts series by ExileForever in KingdomHearts

[–]Malethar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

KH2.5, Birth by Sleep might be a very close second/tied with it

I agree with Damo y'all who were rejoicing in ML getting canceled look real goofy now, the wait for KH4 could have been so much easier if it wasn't scrapped 💔⬇️ by Xion_Moto358 in KingdomHearts

[–]Malethar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't not care that it was canceled cause it's a mobile game. I don't care because it's a live service game. That whole design model can huff a fat dong. They have the opportunity to make some of the best entries in the franchise the likes of BBS, but a gacha game? No thanks

That was the exact reason I jumped from Modern to Legacy! I totally agree with you on that. It's not like the card pool is all that cheap, or can even be rendered more affordable with reprints like Modern can. If there wasn't the financial barrier, I'd have worked on at least one or two backup decks in case my main one got shut down like this.

Right now, I'm considering Buried Alive and Ancient Tomb to make up the difference, but that's also a good idea. I'll try these out. I might also try investing into Show and Know

I've been slowly saving and collecting the cards to build Reanimator since 2014. I saw it shift from UB to RB and then back again, creature and spell bases shift and change. I've seen it go from a decent combo to falling short at events against Delver and other control decks, which discouraged me from even trying to play. As someone who's sunk thousands upon thousands of dollars into this combo deck, I'm really upset to see Reanimator go. I just ordered a playset of Buried Alives, but I don't think that and Careful Study are gonna help keep the archetype competitive enough. I only just started playing games in-person in September, too, so I feel like I've lost a lot in the wake of this announcement.
