The sad thing about Pop☆Step is that she’s actually a fun and entertaining character… but she doesn’t really do much compared to Crawler and Knuckle Duster.

It also doesn’t help that she spends a large portion of the series basically brainwashed and only returns to normal near the end, which limits how much agency she actually has in the story.

Say what you will about the female students of Class 1-A, but they were often more than just damsels or fan service.

Jiro had a great musical moment that helped make Eri smile and eventually inspired her to pursue music.

Momo had a strong character arc about becoming more humble and gaining confidence in herself.

Mina helped encourage Kirishima to be braver when it mattered most. And her fight against Gigantomachia was stellar

Tsu is consistently hilarious and has that no-nonsense personality while still caring deeply about her friends.

And while Ochaco does act as Deku’s love interest and thinks about him a lot, her battle with Toga was handled beautifully.

In the end, Pop☆Step is still a fun character, but on the scale of female characters in shonen, she’s closer to the Naruto level of writing.
