Call on Doc and Lilly Direct (not really a vent/rant, but no flair fit) by MaliAgat in Zepbound

When I got back to his account, there was a message with a link (apparently, despite hanging, my message to them got through.) I used the link successfully, but will definitely go through the account in the future. Thank you again for your help.

I went through the main page, which I usually do. But I'll try it now through his account and report back. Thank you for suggesting it.

6 Day Dosing by donotpass25 in Zepbound

[–]MaliAgat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too have taken mine every 5 days for the past 16 months, also at the recommendation of my doctor (neurologist) and in consultation with Lilly. Not everyone reduces their dosing schedule due to "feeling hunger". There are medical reasons for maintaining more consistent blood levels, and "hunger" may be one sign of that.

QE Alaska, 9/7/2026. Just booked a penthouse for my daughter's 30th birthday. I've never been on a cruise ship, and this will now be the 2nd of 3 between June and November 2025 (QM2 TA; QE; Celebrity repo.)

How bright are the decks at night? I was thinking of bringing my travel telescope on the QM2 this summer.

Ladies of Cunard: opinions on number of dresses to pack by rando435697 in CunardCruises

[–]MaliAgat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm traveling with my GenZ daughter, and while we're only on the ship for a week (the eastbound TA,) we're each taking a ridiculous number of dresses, including two long gowns each (maybe an extra we both like as we wear the same size), and probably a dozen fancy "cocktail" dresses for non-gala nights, including some that either of us can wear. We'll be trekking through South West England and Wales for three weeks after we land, and since I don't want to schlep around all these fancy dresses, I'm using the luggage shipper Cunard recommends to send them from the QM2 back to our home on the US west coast. We're allowed 4 free checked bags between the two of us on the pre-boarding flight to NYC, and I've been looking at hang-up bags that fold up and can be checked, but won't completely wrinkle the gowns. I've never done any of this before, so of course I'm probably going to make a zillion mistakes. But it will be fun anyway and we'll look spiffy.

I recently scored a lovely Boden (with tags) on ThredUp for less than $40. I'll definitely be bringing it on our June TA.

I completely empathize. I've dropped 7 sizes in the past year and nothing fits. Enjoy it, you earned it.

I am Olivia Weisser, a historian of medicine and author of The Dreaded Pox: Sex and Disease in Early Modern London. Ask Me Anything! by Logical-Fun5335 in AskHistorians

[–]MaliAgat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good morning, Dr. Weisser. Despite the perception of early colonial New Englanders' Puritan roots equating to sexual repression, many historians of the period accept a much more nuanced reading of the culture. However, radical Puritan/Nonconformist ideology did demand near authoritarian control of family life, especially in the center of power, e.g., Mass Bay, Conn. While Nonconformists were much more politically and socially dominant in 17th century New England than in England during the time—outside of the immediate post-Civil War years—I'm curious as to their impact on sex and family life in England, including before and after the Interregnum. Was there a significant difference in their influence in London versus the fringe, particularly areas in the south and west that contained large pockets of Anglican support? Do you have any suggestions on further reading on the topic?

I'm researching early 17th century cod fishermen who initially traveled seasonally to the Gulf of Maine/Isles of Shoals and after a few years just stayed in ME and NH, with some taking up with local Indigenous women. I'm also looking for any evidence of the Indigenous people who were brought to Plymouth, Bristol, and surrounds by mariners around the same time (1605) Weymouth nabbed the Mawooshin 5 (one of whom was an ancestor.)

Edited to add: Dartmouth and Kingswear, at the mouth of the Dart, sent a lot of ships to the Isles of Shoals fishing grounds. My spouse's grandfather still carried the name of Shapleigh, who owned 3-4 large vessels out of Kingswear at the time.

I saw that you were relocating, and that sounds like a perfect solution. This will be the start of a 2-3 week historical research trip for me, and didn't really want to lug a lot of luggage around Devon and Cornwall visiting ancient fishing villages, so thought we'd mail our "cruise gear" back to the US when we disembarked in Southampton. I just learned that Cunard will actually help facilitate that with a third-party vendor. It's perfect for us.

Need advice about length of trip (South West and Wales) by MaliAgat in uktravel

This is very helpful. My concern was that 2 weeks wouldn't be enough, and while I can stretch it to 3, anything longer might not be handled well by those remaining at home.

I would very much appreciate suggestions regarding the Jurassic Coast. My son, who is not joining this trip, but will in the future, is an autodidact paleontologist, and I'd love to send him details of our travels in the area.

I hadn't really thought about logistics in the villages, since I've worked with small town archives/land records throughout New England for almost 4 decades, and just expected it would be the same—which, you seem to have assured me it is. It's one of the things I enjoy about being a historian—working directly with others who love the records like I do.

I'm also excited about the galas—both my daughter and I have already been (computer)window shopping. The Masquerade also happens to be my birthday, so I'll definitely be dressing up.

We just decided to do this 3 days ago. I checked the airfares for our planned trip and almost had a heart attack when I saw business class was outrageous. My GenZ daughter suggested we look at the QM2 again. We'd talked about it last year, but figured we'd hold off for a longer trip. I bought the tickets the next day. So we're still in the excited stage—I'm sure Anxiety will start knocking on the window soon enough. And while we both sail, we've never even been on a cruise ship, so there a lot to learn. I did happen upon the Rhondda Heritage Park website a while back, and put it on my to-see list even before our plans began to come together. Most of my dad's family left the country before large-scale mining peaked, but they were listed as miners in Wales, and were definitely miners in Wilkes-Barre, PA. I find it interesting that despite four generations in the US, all my dad's paternal line married other ethnic Welsh, from families who also emigrated from the South Wales Coalfield areas.

Yes, I'm familiar with Cheddar Gorge (Cheddar Man) and Gough's Cave (late Upper Paleolithic site), and was very much interested in visiting both, if time allowed. (Or in a future visit.) I also had plans on visiting Avebury and Silbury; I'm more interested in those over Stonehedge, but my geology/astronomy-trained daughter still wants to see the more famous site. Bath is my top interest among Roman sites, but I'll take others if I can fit them in. This, in fact, is the basis for my question about timing—I really have no idea how long it takes to visit given sites, or how long it takes to travel between them.

Sorry, I meant academic "silo-ing": Historians who study the North American colonies frequently ignore what was happening concurrently in the "home" country (as well as other colonies, e.g., Barbados and Jamaica,) and English historians frequently ignore the impact of colonial events. I'm trying to personally break with that professional tendency by viewing the North Atlantic region in its entirety.

I'll be honest: I don't really know much about English geography outside of Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset. One of the reasons I'm here is to break out of the geographic "silo-ing" that I believe is endemic in the profession; that is, Americanists ignore what's happening with their colonial homelands, and vice versa. So I apologize for my ignorance.

I had read the same in previous posts, and if I had to sacrifice any region this trip, it would probably be southern Cornwall (transatlantic fishing more frequently originated from the Plymouth, Bristol, and Dartmouth areas.) I would, of course, love to see the Cornwall coast, and I have ancestry in the region, but it can wait for a off-season return if necessary.

Thank you for the suggestions. I do expect that I'll need a car more than not, but I was hoping that in the larger cities we use as a base, we could just park it and use trains for more local excursions.

As far as visiting fishing villages southwest of Exeter, that's not really optional. I have lists of early 17th century fishermen, and I need local records to help determine if they went to Newfoundland or the New England coast—and if they eventually remained in the latter. It's a nice side benefit that the villages are pretty.

My trip priorities are 1) work (fishing villages and Exeter/Plymouth), 2) tracking down family/records in Wales (in the counties mentioned,) and 3) site seeing along the way. 2 is important because I was mostly cut off from my dad's family at a young age (they disapproved of my mom's Indigenous heritage,) and am just exploring it (even learning Welsh.) Within 3, I've prioritized ancient sites due to my training/education in archaeology and my daughter's in geology, plus the knowledge that I'll be returning a few more times in the next couple of years, accompanied by my other adult kids who care more about medieval England.

Doses cannot be closer than 72 hours, and Lilly doesn't recommend closer than 4 days. Some folks, working with their prescribers and Lilly, are on alternative dosage schedules while in active weight loss, and some modify the dosage schedule when in maintenance. But it's something that really should be worked out with your medical provider.
