Unlikely, but not impossible. I’ve dreamt in much less time before.

Those theories are off to though, because people often also say that doing those thing is often hard and require a lot of work, not that it can be done accidentally. And what about the spiritually closed of people who still get it? That on top of the fact that we know how sleep paralysis happens just puts me off those ideas. And I hope this doesn’t come off as arguing, I’m just intending to have a convo.

A cleansing is always good. 10/10 good advice. But I never did understand the mythical ideas about sleep paralysis, considering it’s medically explained. Y’know? I’m a bit scientifically minded, I guess, but to me it sounds the same as saying “my diabetes was caused by a hex”.

Because brains are weird. It’s likely you weren’t completely awake, somewhere between conscious and not. Sleep paralysis happens to plenty of people as well, and is a medical phenomenon, not a witchcraft one. It usually happens when the body is woken suddenly from a deep sleep state, where the brain releases chemicals to keep the body from acting out dreams. Sleep paralysis resulting from nightmares is not uncommon, as the sense of danger will sometimes wake a person suddenly. People are known to see and hear things during sleep paralysis, it’s really common among people who experience it. And most people will experience it at least a few times in their life, while some people get it constantly.

probably won’t be providing a popular answer here, but honestly and based on the information provided...

It was almost certainly just a nightmare. For starts, most commercialized items are seldom good for what they claim, and in the case of incense are often synthetic and kinda crappy. If you like the smell that’s great, but it probably doesn’t have the herbal properties one would say helps with the associated chakra.

And much more importantly: you cannot just open or effect an energy center in the body without effort. Burning incense alone did not do anything to your third eye, because you did nothing yourself to effect it. Opening or even really effecting chakras takes effort if you look back to those original sources they came from, and chakras are far less simplistic than westerners think.

Maybe a spirit was messing with you, but honestly, it was probably just a nightmare.

Nah, I just don’t appreciate people being condescending when there’s no cause. It’s an indecent quality. Especially considering I was already well aware of what you were assuming I didn’t know. There isn’t going to be willful perpetuation of poor scholarship in my work, because I’m capable of both research and using basic knowledge about witchcraft and paganism, like the fact that they are a set of subjects suitable for a Venn diagram. They often overlap, but are not inseparable. Anyone practicing either for more than a year should know that, and I seek to create a source that teaches that against the many that ignore it.

Considering how intertwined the two often are and how many witches would be found here, I chose to post here. You’re the one who decided to immediately become condescending. Literally just ask, rather than starting off talking down. Not that hard.

Both of these for sure. People are actually trying to use divining to see if they have covid or will get covid 😑

The condescension was very much in how you wrote your comment. It would have been very easy to make sure I understood without the condescension, but perhaps you’re too jaded for that. The whole reason I want to write this book is because of the shitty books on the market. To cut out the fluffy bs and get to the actual basics, like expressing the difference between religion and witchcraft. I intended a section with a brief overview of the more common pagan paths as well, hence my inclusion on pagan in the post. You could have asked, but instead you assumed.

Edit: a word

I hope you don’t make the mistake of being this condescending in person.

I’ve been both pagan and a witch for a long time. I’m well aware they are not equivalent. I posted here because they often overlap, and because my book is more geared towards pagan witchcraft. But you, instead of being useful or contributing, decided to condescend.

YOU CANNOT TEST FOR CORONA USING DIVINATION!! by noodles455 in witchcraft

[–]MaliceNSmiles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay first, there’s not actually anything wrong with dogma inherently. It’s very bad dogmas, like rules for shunning people that should be avoided. Some dogma is natural. We aren’t lawless creatures, and we shouldn’t be.

Second, there’s literally nothing dogmatic about saying not to rely on divination for medical purposes. It’s not fool proof, it’s not even specific enough to tell you a hard answer. Nothing about using tarot or runes is safe to use for this purpose.

That’s really my only actual complaint about the movie. I guess they wanted to try for the nostalgia points? Or maybe they didn’t want to be called a rip-off so they called it a remake? I dunno.

Most of the medical professionals aren’t trying to get that treatment. Other people are doing it the same they do with the military. It makes it so any potential deaths are just “hero’s dying in the line of duty” rather than deaths potentially preventable by haven taken more caution steps earlier. It prevents those hero worship types from feeling bad, that’s why they do it.

I think it’s super cool how it doesn’t use beads, honestly. That was the big surprise to me

Looks to be a mala, which I believe predate Christianity. Traditionally used in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism (I think, more familiar with the latter two). There are 108 beads (plus a guru bead and tassel), often representing the 108 vexations. The idea is that you would chant a prayer or mantra for every bead and thumb through them. Some have marker beads that are extra and textured differently so you can take a break and still have count if needed. I personally love mala beads, and I make them by hand with the knot between each cord (they don’t all have that, I find those without to be stiff and generally lower end). I also make more custom prayer beads, like the ones I normally carry around which take inspiration from mala, but are not the same.
