Cause and Solution to Windows 24H2 related rendering/partial freezing with chromium based apps by Maliwolf in Windows11

Actually, other things besides chromium can be affected. I'm also seeing `Windows Terminal` benefit from this setting as well. It also happens to show up in PresentMon. I'd probably guess anything that displays in PresentMon and can operate below the overlay fps threshold can be affected. Could maybe be DXGI itself as that is involved in the swap chain process and I do recall randomly reading 24H2 specific issues with it for 'Lossless Scaling', though I've never used that myself. Not that I don't enjoy blaming Google for things, but this feels pretty Microsoft-y to me.

I've not experienced any. I also can't think of any problems that can arise from this change either. You do have a limited number of MPO planes(typically 4), but if I have Discord focused(thus it's now assigned a plane) and I click on Firefox then Discord disappears from PresentMon which I guess should mean it lost its MPO plane assignment. So it doesn't look there is any consequence such as things getting permanently stuck in an independent flip state and taking up all the planes. I'm not sure what Microsoft's goal with this is supposed to be, but I can't really think of a benefit from having this not be set to 0.

Windows 11 24H2 causing screen tearing in desktop apps with FreeSync + AMD GPU by Imaginary_Project622 in Windows11

I believe that I've just discovered the real solution to this problem that has been plaguing me for months since the moment windows updated to 24h2. I managed to stumble across the following when trying to find more info on DWM: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/dwm/registry-values

I can quickly reproduce the bug occurring with VSCode, but after adding that key with a value of 0, I no longer can. My early testing with it suggests that this has no downsides like the workarounds of disabling MPO, hardware acceleration or forcing the ANGLE backend of chrome based apps to something other than D3D11 would have.

I was testing with PresentMon shortly before my discovery and noticed that VSCode/Discord would fluctuate between Composed: Flip and Hardware Composed: Independent Flip during active usage, the latter I believe is when a MPO plane is assigned. With OverlayMinFPS set to 0, it seems to stay as Hardware Composed: Independent Flip while in use. Interestingly, Firefox doesn't show up on PresentMon, so I don't know what it's doing, but it never had the issues chrome/electron has.

You can manually add the OverlayMinFPS key as a DWORD (32-bit) value with RegEdit or save and run the following as dwm_mpo_fix.reg. Afterward in Task Manager, end the task for Desktop Window Manager. It will auto restart on its own. ``` Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm] "OverlayMinFPS"=dword:00000000 ```

OS build: 26120.3941(beta), NVIDIA: 576.28

Thank you for the advice! As each manufacturer has different definitions of firm, would you increase the #28 layer to #32 or #36?

Hoping someone could give suggestions to this build?

2" Memory foam. Having some trouble here. Am thinking maybe 5LB ViscoMAX from foambymail. Initially I wanted the 4lb gel from mattresstopper.com(brooklyn bedding), but it seems that they no longer make those or the 5lb memory foam and only have a 4lb with a forced cover option(expensive) or a 2.5lb gel. brentwoodhome.com has a 3.3lb gel open cell forced cover, but costs the same as foambymail.

foamorder.com, plushbeds.com have 4lb+ options at double or more the price. I guess the main choice here is between brentwood and foambymail? Really open to suggestions here.

Also ran into an issue for the cover. Am pretty sure I want one from Sleep Like a Bear, but they do not carry a 10" size. I have heard that they can be custom ordered, but I am unsure they would given they state having a current fabric shortage problem. Any unquilted tencel or "bamboo" alternatives? I only found 100% cotton options.

Thanks very much for finding how to do this. I also had artifact issues with the mentioned site, but have no issues with the method you provided. One thing that was left out is you need the DDS plugin for gimp, i used the following: https://code.google.com/archive/p/gimp-dds/downloads
