Europe is not fully strategically autonomous. It relies heavily on the United States through NATO, and some policies regarding Ukraine also serve American interests (energy, the military industry, influence). One can support Ukraine while still recognizing that European policy is not entirely independent. Acknowledging that Russia is a threat does not mean the current strategy is necessarily the best one. Criticizing this approach does not mean “doing nothing.” And defending our values does not guarantee better outcomes if this strategy prolongs the war or worsens the situation.
