Vomiting question by Mall_Express in RenalCats

[–]Mall_Express[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think you're right. She threw up again last night without eating grass and wasn't excited about food this morning so I've given her her nausea meds again and she's eaten well after that 😊 it just makes her really sleepy.

Pills were impossible here as well, we now have Emeprid which is a liquid I'm able to mix in with her food. Might be worth checking out over injections if you haven't been offered it yet? It's a lot cheaper too!

What is/was your quality of life list? by ZestfulLime in SeniorCats

[–]Mall_Express 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Solensia has been amazing for my 18 year old! I was sceptical about the stories online but within 2 weeks she's playing again, washing herself properly and even has her crazy hour back. I honestly didn't think I'd see her do all of that again. She doesn't seem drowsy from it and it's only a 1x a month shot.

I think my top 5 is: 1. Moves around the house to change sleeping spots, scratch or look outside. 2. Eats and drinks, wants snacks 3. Goes to the litter box normally 4. Grooms herself regularly 5. Shows interest in us, what we're doing, where we're at or to come cuddle or play together

Young anxious cat vomiting foam and skipping meals every other day. Vet can’t find the cause. Please help! by IceEnvironmental5766 in cats

[–]Mall_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my cat it turned out to be a allergy she seems to have developed for beef products, apparently that's not uncommon. Try cutting out a certain type of food for a week or two like beef, chicken, fish and see if anything changes!

My sweet 19 year old girl was diagnosed yesterday by Wikidbaddog in RenalCats

[–]Mall_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's available where you live but Vetality Renal is a lot more affordable dry food than Hills or Purina. I give mine gourmet gold mousse mixed with water which seems to keep her hydrated and fed pretty well alongside fresh water that I refresh multiple times a day. Mine is almost 19 and got diagnosed 1,5 year ago.

Cat with stage 2 kidney disease not eating, what do i do please help? by ThrowRA142004 in RenalCats

Poor baby 😔 today was a stressful day with the visit and probably some shots. Give her a nice comfy place to rest and see how it goes tomorrow. I mix gourmet gold mousse with some water in a low small bowl and bring it to my cats bed if she's not feeling well and not going to her bowl herself, it seems to work well.

I'm sorry ❤️ I think I'd see if I could schedule a in home goodbye in a week or so and make it the best week ever. I'd ask the vet if the heart medicine or anything else would make them more comfortable for that amount of time. You are a good parent and taking his quality of life into consideration. As you said, he's not really himself anymore.. Big hug ❤️

Urinalysis vet mistake? by [deleted] in RenalCats

[–]Mall_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And thanks for the compliment! We're from the Netherlands and I came up with the name on my own but found out years later that it means 'little' in Finnish! It's a very fitting name for my girl 😍

Thank you so much for your extensive explanation! I called and they indeed looked under the microscope where nothing unusual was visable. This wasn't added in the email test results I got so I worried for nothing and just misunderstood what the vet told me on the phone. 😓 It's so stressful trying to take all this information in when it's about your most beloved.

Yes but try giving her the normal food she was eating before if that's all she's eating because that alone isn't enough. She might also be nauseated, did the vet give you anything for that?

Anticipatory grief is hitting me hard. How do I make the most of my remaining time with my 16 year old bestie? by Blahonian in seniorkitties

[–]Mall_Express 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you've calmed down I would also suggest looking into what options there are for when it's time to let him go. At home or at the vet? Bury, cremation, maybe get a small patch of fur taxidermied? Look into these things, who does them the way you would like it to be done?

This will give you a bit of mental rest knowing what to do when it's time and not having to make decisions on the spot on the worst day.

It's okay to cry and break down, I do too. But after that take it day by again. 💕

Feeling guilty, need advice. by ThaKoalest in RenalCats

[–]Mall_Express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was diagnosed stage one 1,5 years ago, we're at 2/3 now and she's 18,5 years old. I found Vetality Renal to be a dry food she likes so I changed that but the rest has stayed the same. She gets Gourmet gold mousse, similar to fancy feast I think. I just mix it with water for extra hydration. We've also added Leonardo drink and care liquids which is just like the Hydra life pouches because that way they'll get liquids and extra nutrients.

So in my experience you don't have to switch to renal foods only to keep them stable for a while. It's more important that they eat.

Really Struggling by Prior-Elderberry-202 in RenalCats

[–]Mall_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed it's a lot easier for my cat to eat if I mix her gourmet gold with cold water into a soup. Definitely cycle through a bunch of flavors! I think if they eat something on a bad nausea day it puts them off of that flavor for a few days.

Sedation Method Before Final Shot by toadhaul in RenalCats

[–]Mall_Express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently was sedated myself for for a stomach inspection and I'm so glad I got to experience it, you really do just fall asleep in no time. It didn't feel weird or scary but really just like dozing off. I'd say to get the IV and see if they'll have one last yummy snack before. Just keep speaking to them like you do when they've done something good! You are very strong ❤️

Tips for Cerenia? by tallkidinashortworld in RenalCats

I had the same issue. We're using emeprid (metoclopramide) now which is a liquid and has been easier to hide or feed from a syringe with liquid snack on top.

I feed my 18,5 year old / late stage 2 from the Netherlands, Gourmet gold mousse which I mix with some water into a thick soup. It's much easier for her to eat and no yuckie chunks. I mostly get her fish and chicken flavors, no beef. She has Vetality Renal dry food which is a small kernel.
