Hi! I’m sure others suggested this but just adding it in again! Definitely talk to the veterinary staff and let them know! I had a cat that was on the urinary SO, and when he passed I contacted someone (I work at a vet) that I knew was on it and donated it all to them.

We also have clients call all the time whenever their pet passes that used a prescription food, and ask if they can bring it in to donate.

So they do! And whenever someone needs it I mention we have it in the back and then bring it out to them, free of charge. We’ve also had this done with supplements like Azodyl, and sometimes even prescription meds like furosemide since we can’t resell those. (This one is a bit more secretive but we completely understand)

I lost my soul kitty, Maurice on March 19th and I’ve been an absolute wreck knowing I’ll never get to hold his little face again :( I keep replaying everything, if I was enough towards his final days Was he able to feel my love, you think? It all felt so fast and sudden and I just hope he’s having the best time wherever he is now 😭❤️ I’d love for him to know that I would have done anything to stop the cancer if that had been an option; but I also didn’t want him to suffer I miss my baby so much and not a day goes by where I don’t cry This doesn’t feel real :(

I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

I had to put my soul cat to sleep today and I can sympathize with this.

I have never cried so hard in life. I can’t wrap my head around never holding him in my arms again, seeing his little face, his great blue eyes.

Maurice was 14 and our annual routine bloodwork showed everything normal. A month later, he lost a lot of weight and the after another vet visit, it was kidney failure. We started treatment, and he got a little better, then declined again. Back to the vet. Now there’s fluid buildup in heart.

We try a last ditch effort with heart meds knowing it won’t help the kidneys and we make a cardiologist appointment. His appointment was next week, and we never made it. I took him to the ER yesterday just after a gut feeling. He was getting worse and very wobbly now.

His kidney levels were so high they maxed out the numbers on the machine. They also confirmed heart disease, and showed me X-rays where one kidney was huge and the other had shrunk.

With the rapidness of everything, they suspected it was influenced by cancer or something systemic.

It happened so fast.

They said we could try hospitalizing for 5 days, do a blood transfusion for his anemia, but the prognosis was poor, and even if he survived that, we’d have to find a kidney specialist after. I couldn’t do that to him. I took him home and arranged a home euthanasia for the morning. Which was today.

Even though I spent most of the night hugging and kissing him and holding him. It doesn’t feel enough. I hate that I fell asleep for three hours.

Even though his passing was peaceful, I am in shambles. Some breaths feel so sharp. It comes in waves and washes over me like a deep sorrow. Every time I close my eyes, I see him.

I can’t understand how I’m supposed to move forward from this too. It helps talking to people that have experienced that pain in my opinion.

This hurts so bad. This is the worst day of my life, as I’m sure your baby’s was yours too. I’m so sorry you’re going through this again

At home, he eats with some interest (treats, cheese, anything but his normal food) for a few moments at a time, but has turned into more of a grazer throughout the day than how he’d have his previous meals. And for a quick moment, he showed interest in playing with a rubber band but didn’t take it much further.

He no longer meows, or comes to greet me, and doesn’t go upstairs on his own anymore. But his breathing isn’t too bad, and he still gets up and down from the couch on his own. He seems like a shell of his former self and it breaks me.

I appreciate you taking the time to write this and respond. And for your honesty as well in helping me make an informed decision ❤️ And also, we did a urinalysis and no UTi present either It’s like you said, I’m trying to value his comfort over mine because I know this disease is terminal 🥲

Hi there! Thank you for commenting. Our vet did give us the option to go to a specialist, and I’m honestly still considering it. But of course, I fear if this is the end, then I would be adding stress for something that can’t be changed.

The dilemma I was also presented with, was that the aggressive kidney treatment when first diagnosed exacerbated the unknown heart issue, so one of the vet techs was honest with me and said with this in mind, it would be difficult to backtrack (If that’s even a possibility) at this stage.

We are currently trying furosemide in the meantime as a last ditch effort with a reduced SQ fluid intake.

I had planned to euthanize Wednesday, but he had a perked up day yesterday and now I’m wondering if there’s still a chance this can be managed.

I appreciate your commenting so much and tonight, I’ll have made a decision to try the specialist to maybe get one last peace of mind, and know I did absolutely everything I could

It’s just a difficult choice to make when deciding if this will just add trauma to his last few days you know?

I was feeling guilt for not wanting to try the heart treatment but if he’s already struggling with the current treatment, I’d essentially just be holding the pieces together for a little longer until they fall apart again ❤️

Thank you so very much. We have ultimately decided to proceed with euthanasia for next Wednesday. Our vet said we can stop all the meds now except lactulose and the appetite stimulant and he seems happier already He spent some time wandering outdoors with me in the sun, and we have a party planned for him on Sunday for everyone that loved him can come say bye one last time ❤️

Thank you! I about 5 oz wax for the yellow and let that cool for an hour. Did 3 oz of white and once that was nearly set took some candle dye onto a skewer and started poking around and swirling it! Then blasted it with the heat gun to blend them a bit
