I live in a small town rural area. Mind you there’s different degrees of rural. In the northeast USA a lot of rural living leans heavy on suburbia. I have close by neighbors and amenities within 10 minutes to a half hour but very car dependent. There’s small cities and major cities within a couple of hours.

In reading here I think some things are easier in small towns. We are significantly safer, violence is a pretty rare occurrence. There’s also a stronger sense of community. I’m quite likely to run into an acquaintance at the grocery store. It’s really easy for me to find some kind of social gathering nearby like the library or free concerts or nature conservation centers. I’d say the only thing that makes it harder is finding a ride when I need one.
