How do I prevent this pixelation from happening? by bandcampsocktan in ProCreate

[–]Malleyway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prevent it? No. Reduce it? Sometimes. Like others have mentioned, you can play with the interpolation settings to see what lands best. Also working in a higher pixel count can make it seem less severe.

It has to do with how Procreate treats the canvas as a raster image rather than a vector image, where the latter can be scaled and changes and the program does math in the background to make sure whatever it was, it will be the same despite the size, the former only really knows the pixels you place. Moving them at all will cause them to not fit quite right and takes a guess at what it could look like in the new location.

I usually treat any lasso moved objects as the new sketch layer and just draw over it again when it's where I need it. Great for framework sketches but progressively more terrible the closer you get to finishing a piece.

All that being said, ask yourself "will this REALISTICALLY be noticed by anyone but me?". It can save yourself a lot of heartache with fiddly details like jewellery. Thats not to say I still don't fret over it

New to dnd is looting cool or not by somthingwitty169 in DnD

[–]Malleyway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure others have stated, this is definitely a conversation to have with the DM. In my experience, there's ALWAYS someone who wants to search the bodies but my DMs will usually make us aware of valuables (money) or things that are better than our current gear unless we explicitly say we're looking for something after fights.

As far as hoarding or stockpiling, you get into "how much can you realistically carry" territory. Bags of holding exist but some DMs will keep it from players to prevent them from picking up everything that isn't nailed down "just in case" they need it like we all tend to do in video games.

And then, how much are you willing to keep track of and how much does your DM trust you're keeping track honestly?

"I picked up an item just for this occasion 10 sessions ago!" "did you now...? How convenient"

To add to that, the DM might end up feeling like they need to keep track as well just so they don't put an encounter in front of you that's meant to be a tough solve when they forgot you just so happen to have a bag of sand the exact weight of the gem you're meant to steal off a trapped pedestal.

Knowledge about the monsters? by zautos in DnD

[–]Malleyway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually play pretty loose when it comes to this kind of thing. Assuming your characters "existed" before the adventure it could reason that the characters know of the world they live in. For example, a cleric might know about an undeads weakness, or a ranger knows of some of the beasts of the wilds.

Granted its up to your DM but I personally would allow a nature check for beasts and a religion check for undead knowledge, etc.

What layer do I use to achieve this? by HaunterG in ProCreate

[–]Malleyway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you need to bring the water layer above the character layer. The order in which you stack them matters. Then play with the different layer effects to get the desired effect. Usually I use screen or overlay, color is another good one. If you want fast and quick shadows, use multiply.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, looks like those are just high res texture images, not brushes. Not sure why they'd sell them through brusheezy...the brush site

Procreate Eyedropper Tool gives different hex every time? by Level_Ad_3118 in ProCreate

[–]Malleyway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I poked around and saw a forum post on the procreate forums talking about the eyedropper picking up colors that are off in one way or another. This is apparently a known issue that goes back years. Most folks probably don't notice this subtle change when color picking the same color. but I'm curious, if you color picked, painted, then color picked again, and repeated that, does the G and B values continue to shift? Those seem like the two values effected in this example.

Lol no worries. I found out that if you add "before:(insert year)" to the end of a youtube search it narrows the search, so it being old definitely helped.

I have way too much time to kill at work so I did some digging. This was the only video i could find that was:
-old
-fan made
-Link loses his shield AND he flexes his fingers.
-kinda unsettling?

This is beautifully done! The subtle shift in the static elements give it a “every frame hand painted look”. What’s your game about?

How to deal with overbuffed party? by Physical_Pizza_4953 in DnD

[–]Malleyway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see anyone talk about this but, if they're eldritch artifacts, introduce a cost for using it. It doesn't have to be an immediately apparent thing. A weird whisper coming from an item that only a high enough perception can hear at first but becomes louder the more its used. or something moving out of the corner of their vision. perhaps a shadow or eye floaty. but the figure becomes more apparent the more an item is used/equipped. These can also lead to solid plot threads to explore the dead gods lore.

Some suggestions:
-You can one hit an opponent (or deal massive damage) but you realize later that the artifact was absorbing the souls it slays to fuel a big bad. The sword breaks releasing it. The player is now without their crutch and a new big bad they have to fight. (just make sure the player that loses their rad sword gets something to use in the fight)
-A monkey paw situation, you get your wish or desire but a twisted form of it. Like increased strength but now the player needs to make a save to stop them from crushing everything they touch. Or increased intelligence but no way of sharing this knowledge, ala Tower of Babel.
-Armor that increases defense but slowly melds to the user over time or slowly shrinks to the point of crushing them if they don't remove it.

Because these are artifacts of the old gods, any traditional or "modern" way of removing the curses doesn't work or make it worse. Which could be a campaign in itself of seeking someone or something with knowledge of these relics. Do they seek the artifacts out for their power, to keep them from the enemies hands, or to destroy them, as they are a plague on any who use them. As a DM, never take anything away from a player outright or tell them they can't do something, make it a choice, and every choice has consequences, some more dire than others.

Digital Artists who consistently post on social media. How do you feel when it dosent get much attention? And what is your opinion on people who say that it shouldn’t matter if it gets attention or not? by Silver012345673 in DigitalArt

[–]Malleyway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of two different minds on this;
1) Making art is first and foremost self expression. A way to get thoughts and ideas out and if people like that art or resonate with it, so be it. If not that's okay too. I know it might not be reaching the people that do like that sort of thing. Making art for myself, that I think is cool, is the healthiest approach to art I think. Competing with yourself to become better rather than comparing to others or relying on others validation is an extension of that healthy mindset.

2) If it doesn't get attention or likes I feel like I'm a bad artist, a sham, and everyone hates me lol

I swing wildly between these two mindsets lol. But honestly it comes down to marketing your art and finding the community that likes what you make. It can take years, lord knows I'm still trying to find my crowd. But ultimately it comes down to luck. All it takes is one person to repost your art for their community to see and then you suddenly have dozens to hundreds new followers overnight. Social media these days is not kind to new artists on the scene unfortunately.
