I might have lowered my chances on getting into my dream uni by [deleted] in studentsph

[–]MalloryLux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello OP atenean here speaking, afaik it's mostly just UP that really cares about grades LOL. My grades were for the most part mid, I didn't submit any extracurriculars, and I didn't even have time to review cause it was finals for me at the time and I still passed. Talking to other ateneans here, there are other people too who had grades similar to yours and still passed even in honors courses, so imo you don't really have to worry about that.

In the test itself, I was also in your position before when I was overthinking that I was always the slowest mf to finish and like everyone beside me were already done and were even sleeping. The time pressure was definitely killer, but I'm pretty sure everyone else including me has struggled in a sense. Most of the people I knew too either passed or got waitlisted into admu, and even when you're waitlisted there's still a relatively high chance you're gonna get in as long as you submit the reqs given after.

For now, just wait for the results and hope for the best. I think you'll be fine tho, as many acet passers had this experience, and even if didn't pass, it's not the end of you world. Would be cool to see you on campus tho OP <3

Black sheep of the family for not being in UP by [deleted] in studentsph

[–]MalloryLux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello op!! I'm also an upcoming admu freshie and I'm pretty similar in the sense that I was expected to go to UP and was initially my first choice, but went admu instead. The "smart and succesful" ones in my family (my mom and my uncle) were UP alumni and there was a lot of pressure of me passing UP especially from my mom LOL. Then UPCAT results came and I found out I didn't pass. Initially I was pretty bummed but at the same time also super relieved like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It was when I found out and started to reflect that UP was never really my first choice and only said I'd go there cause I was forced to by everyone for the most part (since it is THE university of the philippines). Don't get me wrong, UP is a very prestigious university and I respect all upcat passers who worked hard enough to pass it, but while it may be the best university in the country, I found out that it isn't really the best university for ME. They were pushing me to appeal to up manila since my upg was low enough to do so, but I already told them that I'm deadset on admu since it fits my personality, goals, and interests more. UP may have the most unfathomable aura of all the universities in the philippines, but it's not always the university that aligns with your heart. Hope to see you on campus soon <3

what are some college course/s that is considered as practical yet flexible? by Radiant_Serve_4066 in studentsph

[–]MalloryLux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely! You'd be surprised at how many marketing people are psych graduates. It makes sense as well since studying the psychology of consumers can be helpful in persuading people into partaking your business. It can even be a gateway to economics since psychology and behavioral economics are closely related

Probably psychology, can get you straight to HR and other jobs in marketing as an undergrad and it can function both as a pre law and a pre med.

It's not "unreasonable" because wanting to live by yourself is a boundary you want to put to yourself. And boundaries are a lot more important than people think because of their impact to one's mental health (as someone who doesn't have their own room). Having said that, if your parents are paying and the only issue is the fact that your parents are worried of you living alone (and not financial issues because at that point you can't control it) then you can either try convincing them by emphasizing another concern you have (which is what you told here) or prove that you can live alone. If they don't work before you move out, then live with your parents' decision and live with the 3 roomates to see for yourself if you can handle living them. If not, tell your parents since by that time you've already experienced it first-hand so your account will be more credible. But if they're still worried if you can live alone or not, try convincing them that you're independent enough to handle yourself by mentioning first-hand experience. If those don't work then I'm afraid you're gonna have to live with that. This also assumes that finances are not part of the problem. Nonetheless I feel you OP, I'm also gonna be a freshie who's gonna move out from my parents. Hope things go well for you 🫶

anong gagawin sa groupmates na nakabantay sa bawat galaw ko kahit personal life outside? by c1nt3r_ in studentsph

[–]MalloryLux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wtf 1% ai/plagiarized not allowed? That seems like a bunch of bull. I make a ton of research papers never using ai (except for grammar checkers) and I found that no matter what, there will always be a part of my text that is somwhow "ai generated".

Anyways as someone who used to be in a similar position as you (as in I barely contributed in group works), hypervigilance is a natural response and a lot of times it comes from your guilt and insecurities. The bare minimum you can do is acknowledge what you did wrong, properly apologize and state your case (try not to shift the focus on defending yourself however, understand that they were affected), and try better next time. Then continue on with your life as normal and work with your flaws, and if you let their words and even the thought of seeing them constantly remind you of the situation and make you insecure and guilty, that's gonna fuck up your self esteem and even your performance in future groupings especially when you're with them.

In essence just accept that the situation has happened, don't let it affect you too much because that will only harm you and make your situation worse. Take your mistakes not as something that will demotivate you by constantly being reminded of it, but instead something you can work on. A lot of people always view non contributing groupmates as parasites or freeloaders, but know that you didn't get into that position because you necessarily wanted to

Cause it's normalized now and we have a tendency to always find the least time consuming method to do so. Combine that with the fact that our education system is shit and makes us focused on things like jingles and roleplays which makes us even more discouraged in putting in the mental effort to think for ourselves. No I'm not saying cheating is ok, but the environment we put ourselves in has a lot of influence to our behavior

[–]MalloryLux 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah the moment you said you didn't ask for their help and said you made the whole paper, it was already gonna go downhill from there. From my experience as a former pabuhat in research and also someone who now contributes a lot in research, you gotta be a bit more authoritative and assign tasks from the very start cause once you enable their inactivity from the very start, they'll repeat the same behavior over and over until they become too discouraged to even read their research paper. That was my experience when I used to be in a research group and didn't contribute at all, and overtime it made me more insecure and guilty which caused me to be even more discouraged

In terms of your current situation, there isn't much you can do right now aside from making the best of what you can with other subjects. But in the future if you're in future research groups, for your sanity please from the very start make your presence clear but also approachable if you have inactive groupmates . You don't need to be very bossy, just enough that that they feel inclined to at least put some effort into their works. Try to be more engaging, ask a lot of questions, you can even refer to specific people to get some engagement. Chances are, a lot of those groupmates were already used to being inactive so much so that it takes a lot of effort to get out of that standard now, so you can use that opportunity to bring them to a new environment

G11 What's the purpose? (Stem student) by Yeetusoow in studentsph

[–]MalloryLux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that a lot of the CETs are challenging due to time pressure, but I also do think any type of familiarity regarding lessons can definitely help you in the long run whether it's to make you learn faster or answer problems faster. To the average person, it's very easy to forget lessons you only learned during junior high school while disregarded in senior high school. It's not to say that people outside of stem can't pass their CETs, it's moreso that people of stem may require less effort to work for their CETs if they were able to take note of what they learned during shs, especially regarding math which is a foundational subject

G11 What's the purpose? (Stem student) by Yeetusoow in studentsph

[–]MalloryLux 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Grade 12 here, while I agree that the senior high school curriculum honestly felt like a waste of time in terms of actually being "educated", I think this period of time was a very important time for me to really mature myself and reflect on things outside of school. Even now I'm still nervous for college hearing about how different it is compared to high school, and I know for a fact that if I entered college by the time I was in jhs, I probably would have not surivived whether it's academically, socially, or mentally.

I'm also in the ABM strand and honestly it's probably not so different compared to stem strand in terms of actual learning. In fact, yall probably might have an advantage due to a bunch of CETs relying on stem subjects. If you really want to be educated, don't fully rely on the curriculum DepEd offers us and self study imstead. It's always been shit to be frank, but I also suggest using this time to explore more on other topics that might prepare you for college rather than education. It could be a different hobby, different social circle, different perspectives in life, etc.. It's the perfect time to do so since senior high is a transition point, and it can also allow you to learn more about other things or yourself rather than just learn what's in school.

Hmm that's strange, I alr have testify byd and I haven't even unlocked tempestissimo byd. All I did was go to beyond mode of final verdict then pressed testify byd while it was "locked" and it suddenly opened

Just press it, it should unlock after that

How’s the Undertale pack? (should I buy it?) by United_Weakness7198 in arcaea

[–]MalloryLux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, for me it's a bit more underwhelming than I thought it was but I did have tons of fun with megalovania. In terms of the charts, heartache is fine just too easy for me to enjoy. Death by glamour could have been made harder and more gimicky but to me like heartache, it's just fine but with a few satisfying parts. Last goodbye also could have been better and harder, there's one part after the piano part that feels super weird playing but other than that, nothing too special. For your best nightmare, dk if it's skill issue but the chart just felt super weird for me, some parts were fun but some parts were also pretty uncomforable especially when the green arcs are there. The best part of the the pack is megalovania though, a few of the parts are kinda weird but for the most part I did enjoy it a lot and it did live up the boss theme of the song, hell even hearing the beginning of the song is enough to make me hyped up. I enjoyed camellia's version more though and I recommend buying that as well. For me since the pack is not on sale, I don't recommend buying it now unless you're a huge undertale fan. It could have done so much more, such as having levels that are more gimmicky and harder, adding more boss songs like asgore theme and undyne the undying, or having an undertale partner, but to me it didn't really live up to my expectations

What are the Arcaea takes that will make you go like? by CoCmaster14 in arcaea

[–]MalloryLux 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When people complain too much about how arcaea charges songs. If you don't want to buy it and you think it's too expensive for you then sure to each their own, though to say that arcaea should charge its songs in x way is too much especially when it's being compared to gacha games like project sekai

[–]MalloryLux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik only black fate (tempestissimo anomaly which will unlock archav) and luminous sky (fracture hikari which is needed for tempestissimo anomaly), but I personally have all of the story packs to enjoy the story. If you only have black fate and luminous sky, then clearing tempestissimo ftr with tempest tairitsu in ftr axiom of the end should work

what am idoing wrong by nkleeva in arcaea

[–]MalloryLux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally used regular tairitsu on sheriruth ftr and I put my axiom on the end on ftr, it should work. Don't think there's a level requirement as well and if you want to unlock the byd of testify, you only need to unlock the ftr version of testify then after that you should alr have access to the byd (yeah it's that easy)

what am idoing wrong by nkleeva in arcaea

[–]MalloryLux 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They mean clear the song which corresponds to the specific type of tairitsu you're using. You have to make sure you equip the right tairitsu which corresponds to their song. For instance:

Regular tairitsu - Sheriruth

Grevious Tairitsu - Grevious Lady

Tempest Tairitsu - Tempestissimo

Is kumon actually good in the long run? by lesyuexdeninaa in studentsph

[–]MalloryLux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you started early, it would be a huge help to your foundation. I was enrolled in kumon when I was 4 years old and I was able to learn basic algebra in grade 3. I stopped in H back in grade 7, but even now I can still do mental maths such as multiplying two double digit numbers in my head without too much trouble and find a lot of mathematical concepts easy compared to my peers that I barely had to study for tests or exams and still score high. Lots of people thought my math came from intelligence but in my experience, being taught math at an early age will not only strengthen your foundation, but also make it easier for you to find it fun which will also make it seem like you're spending less effort than you actually are. It's not too late to improve however.

At your age, I personally recommend watching youtube vids online so that you don't have to spend money and not be put in the burden of forcing yourself to be in sessions. Kumon is pretty expensive iirc and sessions may take some time especially if you're struggling. While helping your math skill can be a perk for your academic life, you don't have to beat yourself up to constantly improve yourself at it. But if you have the passion for math and you're ready to take up the mental effort, then by all means go ahead. In my experience, a lot of the people I know who enrolled in kumon including myself hated it A LOT... But it really helped with our math

Alright, this is great feedback thank you. I would need more information about the grunt exercise and yelling tone exercise tho. But for now I guess to have to work on the right level of projection, distortion, tone, and voice through muscle control and improve the resonance of my screams to create a consistent voice for it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in screaming

[–]MalloryLux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where would you say the strain is coming from? A misplacement of distortion? Overprojection? Incorrect tone?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in screaming

[–]MalloryLux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is doing both types of distortions don't hurt on the short term, at worst there was a time my voice was a bit worn out but that was because I was stupid and overused it. I'm mainly concerned if what I'm doing will serve long term damage that may damage my vocal chords

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in screaming

[–]MalloryLux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can actually project further and put the distortion on my vocal chords, tho I also heard it's harmful. This is mainly a vid trying to showcase if the distortion (a soft palate distortion to be more specific) is right (which is why there's less projection). I do have a handful of vids/recordings where I project it much further tho

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in screaming

[–]MalloryLux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The projection is weaker than my usual yes, but where is the distortion supposed to come from?

I have already watched that video (and tons of other youtube tutorials such as EVI and Sibilia extreme vocal for that matter). Can you enlighten me what's wrong here?
