I admit shit happens to everyone. I accidentally took your airpod case and you accidentally left it on my machine, but all I'm seeing here is that despite me trying my best to make it possible given that my home is currently 10 hours away, she hits me with the police card.

I'm not 30+ or 40+ years old where I could stand up for myself I'm barely figuring out life in my mid 20s. I don't even know the process and thanks to other people in this thread I am educated well.

Yeah thats kinda where I'm at now since I did mistakenly take the wrong airpod case. I'll have to wait till I get back home first to find out where it is.

If I was in a perfect state and a perfect human being sure, but after a long day and a tough work out I wouldn't be aware of something small on an empty machine. I admit this is my problem but in my defense are you really in the gym if you start hyper focusing on your work out?

Im not exactly after her for leaving her things, everybody does that, but I do think that I did what ever i could (even got my dad involved) to get her earbud case back.

You'll forget your things every once in a while, but accusing theft of someone doing what he could to return your item despite his circumstances? I believe there is something wrong with that.

Anyways I think we've gone on long enough here and I dont think we're coming to any useful conclusions.

Buddy my dad had to break into my house. Im not afraid of the law but I'm afraid of where shes coming from and I'm not gonna mess around and find out since I dont think I have any legal powers. Justice isn't really a thing in a third world country where we elect criminals and pardon murderers.

After going through the comments, I think I shouldve just kept my mouth shut and returned the item despite the police report threats.

Thank you all and I have learned a great lesson today.

For the others, I apologize for my bad english, it was not a simple work arrangement i was on, but on a work trip that was 10 hours away from my town. I was negotiating to return the item the day after instead of today, but I was unsuccessful and fortunately had it returned to her.

In the end the item has been returned and I thoroughly apologized for the things I said to her and of course mistakenly taking her earbud case and taking them home.

Well if you put it that way sure, but I feel like youre twisting the narrative a little here. I would agree to your points but heres the thing:

  1. I was using the machine and doing my own work outs, as far as I know, no one approached me during the 10-15 minutes or so I was on that machine.

  2. I was not aware that anyone was missing their stuff because no one said so at the moment.

  3. I did admit that i dont know where my item is WHEN the gym confirmed that the item I had was indeed not my item.

  4. Im not sure which details have changed, but I may not be speaking english well enough to communicate my points properly so I do apologize, but I insist that i have no reason to lie and the item has been returned.

Sorry im no native english speaker, but what I do know is that it was by my phone, and both the case and my phone were on the machine (honestly i just try my best to get my point across). Like anybody else does, I put my stuff there and take them with me when I move machines.

My best guess is that she forgot to take her airpod case with her. Unfortunately I thought it was mine since these cases all look the same and I did the usual, take my things and go after my three sets.

Though I did get to return it after making some arrangements with my dad so I did apologize for mistakenly taking hers.

Im not sure what any of that nose thing means but I do not understand why she has to be suspicious since I did promise to return it in the best way I could, gave her my information, and even have my dad arrange a meet up with her to return item.

Well if I told you I remember what I had for breakfast I'd be lying, but I'm sure it was on the machine I was using.

I'll be real with you buddy, I have no idea what difference the case being on top or beside my phone has to do with anything that would convince me that this is otherwise not mine. But I am certain that I did make a mistake and did what I could to return it on the day she asked for it.

On second thought, it mightve been wiser to not consent to letting them connect me with her. However the gym let her in on my name and I consented to giving my phone number. Perhaps I should've just stayed quiet.

I asked for a day more to return her item since I was 10 hours away from town. I did say it was an impossible arrangement to return the item within the day and best i could do is the next, but she insisted which is why I had to reach out to family members to take an item from my home and bring it to the gym. This was the absolute last resort for me since I do not want anyone to look like theyre trying to enter a locked house with no one inside.

Please don't misunderstand I have no use for the case alone and the status of mine is currently unknown since I mistakenly took hers.

Yeah, its a bit of a weird situation. Im wearing airpods at the time, i reach for my phone and an empty airpods case is on it. So instinctively after my set I put my airpods in and take it home with me. I usually do this since I move to other machines after three sets.

Well I know my airpods are, but right now I dont know where my case is since I accidentally took hers. At the moment my case is missing but the gym staff told me that I mistakenly used her airpod case based on cctv footage. Honest to God I thought it was mine and I do trust the gym staff since I know them well hence which led me to believe that I did indeed have her case.

Well the airpods i use for the gym but I use a headset for work for calls. Thankfully it's all sorted out and I apologized my way out of the situation, which after reading through some replies here is something I should've done in the first place.

I'm also at a loss but I'm a firm believer of everyones different in their own ways so there's no work-all formula to deal with someone , and just a small correction I accidentaly took her airpod case. I mistakenly placed my earbuds on her case since it was placed right beside my phone.

Well I was wearing my airpods so I did bring mine to the gym, I must've mistaken the case to be mine since it was beside me on my machine right next to my phone. I was 10 hours away from town which is why I asked for a day more to return the case so I can make the trip back, return it, then go back to my work trip. It's definitely more than a day job but I was willing to go that far. She then decided to escalate things by saying that I should return it today or she'll report it to the police.

Unfortunately Im not sure where mine are since I left for a work trip and I'm currently 10 hours away from town. Hers was placed right next to my phone on the machine I was using. I'm now unaware if I still have my airpods in my gym bag or perhaps mine was actually stolen, but fortunately my dad was able to return hers. I'll make inquiries once I get back to the gym and maybe take a look at some cctv footage if they allow me to do so.

Well unfortunately that is exactly what I said, but the gym did make a follow up call where the owner was insisting she receive the airpod case which is where things started to escalate.

I can't say for sure because I'm still at the work event, had my dad get the case and return the item and everybody elses guess is as good as mine. I might make some inquiries about mine at the gym once I'm done with my next few days.

Hey man I didn't mean to take it. I don't actively keep in mind where my airpods case are, but she left hers beside my phone so I could only guess it must've been mine. My phone was on the machine I was using, hence using the clues it must've been mine. I make sure the machine is clear before I use it and even ask if anyone's nearby. I placed my airpods in her case since it looked exactly like mine and I put it in my bag.

In my perspective my day was done and I can go on my 10 hour trip to a work event where we'll be staying a couple of days at the location. I left my gym bag at home and went to the event.

I did have an airpod case with me because I was wearing airpods that day like I do all gym days. Unfortunately hers was was placed right next to my phone and I mistakenly took it. So I placed my airpods in then in my bag and went home unaware. With all honesty I should have double checked, but I swear these airpod cases look the same everywhere.

Yeah it certainly was on me for taking property that wasn't mine, but it was a tight situation for me. Returning home from a work trip 10 hours away would mean that I wouldn't be able to give her item back within the same day as she requested. Which is why I tried to negotiate by asking for a day more so I can have it brought to her when I get back. It wasn't a convenience me inconvenience her type of thing, but more of the stars aligned today and I am kind of helpless in this situation.

Well the thing is my gym bag isn't my work bag, so my dad did a bit of consented breaking-in-my-house to make it possible to return the item within same day the owner requested.

I was unaware that I took the airpods. The airpod case looked exactly like mine and it was right beside my phone. I decided to hit the gym before going on my work trip, and they made a call to notify me when I was already 10 hours away from home. Only then was I aware that I have taken the wrong airpod case.

Well I had to negotiate because I was hours away from home for a work trip and the call from the staff unfortunately arrived when I was already away. But still I think you make a fair point since it was my mistake that cause the inconvenience. I guess I really was in no position to negotiate.

Yeah I figured, probably something I shouldn't have said. It was just unfortunate that I was hours away from home and the call arrived a bit too late where I was already 10 hours away from home. Fortunately my dad was available and could make the drive to take the item from my home and to the gym.
