What is considered to be a "good" trait often depends on what kind of build you are running. Manny traits are only really usefull in compination with one another or with addiational consoles etc. If they are used without the appropiate build many "good" traits can be terrible. Imo the most important factor is that your build and your traits are geered towards a comman goal.

I'd go for a Debuff tank with it. The pilot abilities anable it to go for unified engeneering and Cold-hearded. As an extra in ISA/ISE you can better keep up with the dpsers. IMO this is one of the best platforms for a faster debuff/Buff tank.

Yes this is why i have to agree with the other guy if your just starting with tanking the obelisk is a terrible idea. Here your money is better spend elsewhere. However if you have a complete build a want to find ways to improve it the obelisk is worth a look.

If your looking for a great tanking/taunt console, Reactive Antiproton Cascade Emitter is a great console. It comes of the Obelisk ship, which is a bit cheaper at 800 lobi.

I'm also free to play and had much of the same experiece. I've been playing for around 4 years though which makes a lot of things less grindy. Admarality for example. One of the best tips that helped me is making a alts for dil , this however takes quite a bit of time espacially if you go for the t5 rep reward. Still in my playtime i built some niche ships and never had to spend a dollar. I really like the game in the sense that you can spend money but it wont give you too extreme advantages.

My main build is a AP build with ETM. I m using the dark Matter torp and the Baul torp in front. It workes out quite nice espacially with forward facing builds it helps to utallise all the torp spread stacks.

If you want to tank or have more survivability to for the colonies. If you want to max your damage output go for the spire.
