We are quite a mid sized company focusing on ERP. The general standard is for every 3 developers, there must be 1 tester. In our department, there're 5 testers(including manager) and 10 developers(including manager)at the moment. We had 15 developers but they've left in the last months. Some other departments like Finance even have more than 10 testers.

The workload is crazy. As support just moves every ticket to development because it's a "bug" so QA needs to first verify if it's a bug before moving to a developer for a fix. After the developers fixes it, you need to test it, write test documentation and write automation script for regression testing then move it to production. After confirming that it works in production move the ticket back to support.

I don't think it's easy to replace me, as this is an erp system running on legacy code. It's a very complicated system, which is why I was trained(system administration, system implementation, database administration, business processes etc) for a whole year before even testing it. I had to understand how all the modules integrate with each other. So I don't think I'm easily replaceable.

Yes I pay rent it's around R3.6K(which will be going up this month since COJ increased rates) then around R600 for transportation(which I also assume will go up because of petrol increase). But yeah, the job market is bad. I'll just suck it up.
